I started a thread in the northeastern forum a few days ago asking how much would it cost to replace a sunroof glass as my glass was broken last week (by a devilish ex-girlfriend ) i desperately wanted to get my sunroof fixed but more importantly i feared someone would get a bright idea and wanna try and break into my car through the sunroof. Well guess what.............. that's precisely what happened!!! some ******* rat bastard broke into my car and "tried" to steal my pioneer avic n-1. tried is the key word because they didn't get much, they only ended up pulverizing the whole thing and not getting anything. i had took off the face as i always do at night and my hideaway unit is still tucked away under the floorboard on my passenger side front seat still so i dunno what they accomplished besides ruining my avic n-1 and taking about 10 empty cd cases. I hate ameture thieves (and professional thieves for that matter too) but ametures are the worst, because they end up causing you all this money and don't even get the product they were after??

Now i have a problem, my AC and or heat won't shut off?? if i push the AC and heat control in they'll work but it won't shut off though? what could the problem be and how can i fix it? it's a sad day. sad sad day

 

Have you contacted your insurance company? Couldn't you claim that the sunroof was broken by the "amateur" thieves and claim all the damage at once?

I suggest you avoid your ex-girl friend like the dose!

 

All i had was liabilty on the car! but today i got my full coverage finally. i was earlier contemplating starting a claim immediately, but then i realized that i had 5 days from today to produce the car inspection pictures for the insurance company. if i had taken the pictures before this happened i woulda been in the clear, so i don't know how'd that work out for me, or how my new insurance would react to a claim made, actually the night before i got insurance with them (but they wouldn't know that) i'm just thankful that my car wasn't stolen. i woulda really been messed up than, being that i only had liabilty on the car.

 

It strikes me that you need more than liability insurance in New York. What is the incidence of car theft and break-ins like.

I saw a newsclip on TV last night claiming that the crime levels in New York City have dropped dramatically, along with violent crime and that statistically New York is a safer city than Vancouver, BC, where I'm from. The newsclip was provided by a newsguy in Vancouver that moved from New York City several years ago to get away from the crime situation. I take what he said with a grain of salt because I'm not sure how much propaganda has been generated post 9/11 to keep New York the vibrant city its always been. I digress, lol!

 

i agree with you 100%. but i got quoted for about..................7,000$ for the year in jamaica, queens, 22 years old at the time and an "ok" driving record. i personally can't afford that so i had no choice but to go with the liability at the time. i was wondering if i disconnected the battery, would that reset everything along with the temp controls? because as i eluded to earlier, it won't shut off now when the car is on.

You need to get that sunroof fixed ASAP. Btw..i think i've seen your max before, that Banner "sexy black" seems familiar.. And maybe the car theif could have relations with your ex, seeing as he/she did not care about taken the car, but rather taking your pioneer.

to answer that, that's my name that i go by, and if we allow playa haters and thieves to dictate how we mod or customize our cars, then we'd be a sorry group of 4th geners with stock maxima's (ewww). the thing is i do whatever i want to my car without really thinking what one might think of it, i.e. a theif or playa hater. as long as i take all the necessary precautions like brake locks, alarms, kill switches, etc i just leave the rest up to fate. hope for the best but prepare for the worst. thanks for the concern though.

tell you the truth, if you knew your ex-gf did it, then tell her to pay for it. call the cops n file a report. but if you don't have proof, then maybe she didn't do it. say she did do it, and you do live in ny. anyone that sees a window open will automatically go in and take whatever is there. you're ex g/f prob knows where you keep you're face plate also. so if she did have something to do with it, then she woulda prob told that person where the face plate was hiding. as far as going through the insurance, unless you have a really low deductible, its not worth it. you gain insurance points every time you claim. at least thats how its like in nj.

 

My ex-girlfriend, shattered it initially, it wasn't broken through yet. i obviously wanted to get it fixed but i didn't have 400 or some odd dollars to get it fix so i had to just deal with it for the time being. but eventually it started to chip little by little, being that it was shattered. but it was just little chips. it wasn't a big hole as seen in the pictures. the thief did that. that's why the title of this thread was that my worst fear came true, because i feared some jerk would see that and try to capitalize on it, which someone did. i think i did get lucky though in one instance, i scoured the junksyards looking for a sunroof and came to this one place and the guy said he'd give it to me for 125$ installed. so i said i'd be back a.s.a.p. to get it. that's good i suppose because when i had asked around some people told me 300$, 400$, and even possibly 800$ for the glass alone!!!

Awww Poor Baby..the Same Thing Happened To Me Except For A Few Details. I Had My Max For 2 Days When An Amateur (maybe The Same Idiot That Victimized You!) Decided To "attempt" To Take My Cd Player Also But They Went In Through My Front Passenger Window... Grrrrrrrrr.. I Had To Drive My 4 Month Old Home In The Rain With A Missing Window...i Dont Understand Why They'd Try To Take The Base Not Knowing Which Face Fits, And Not Knowing How To Remove It Either. I Just Took Pics Of Another Car Like Mine And Got Away With It.
