red clears destroyed...very mad!
Well today was horible, i was at work, my last day at az thank god, i pulled my car up closer to the the building b4 i was leaving and i was just out side having a smoke admiring the car, the usuall lol, i turn away and next thing i know some f***ing retard backs his full size gmc into my car, dents in the trunk lid, pushes in the tail light and the hole area behind it that suports it, cracks up my red clears, creases the bumper in and then trys to tell me it shouldnt cost more then 300 dollars to fix it, and also trys to say that the crease in my bumper was all ready there. I dont think i've ever been so mad before, those tail lights were def. my fav. thing and their in pieces in the parking lot. I'll have pix up tomorrow i just really needed to vent
Also if somone has a link to an older listing of ebay so i can print it out to stress the poin of how hard its going to be to replace these and if anyones got a set for sale pm me, i'll be looking for some next week some time, i really dont want to go back to stock tails

Why bother with it. Just call your Insurance company and let his Insurance pay you the full price of the repair from a body shop. If you car is parked then you collect 100%, Your holding all the chips don't let him low ball you on the price of the repair. Get every dime out of him!

hey man..one more thing...say you suffered psychological damage for a few days...then get more..for emotional damages...just be like..."i like my max, and he hit it with no remose"...lol...that would make my day.
You will have to prove to the insurance company the replacement cost of the tail lights for them to reimburse you. Start saving links to red/clear FS threads and eBay listings. If an adjuster complains, tell him he owes you either replacement cost or fair value. In this case, replacement cost=fair value.
you sound really worried and upset about this. rightfully upset, but you shouldn't be worried. if you collected his information, you should be fine getting your stuff replaced. do you ahve full coverage? or does that not even matter when you are just parked?

isn't it fine with proof of price off of ebay or some other site? sorry, i haven't had a whole lot of experience with accidents and contacting insurance for that purpose. don't think i'm oblivious to the fact that red clears are rare and can't be made by hand on a 95/96. just figured that by proving to this guys insurance company the price of the tails that it would be taken care of. maybe in a perfect world it is so easy...
Sorry to hear this man...
I'm not sure what the deal w/ other insurances is, but I know there are some who do business around here and their policy is that if you do not get coverage for non-OEM, aftermarket parts, and they get damaged/ruined in an accident (be it your fault or theirs) the insurance company will not cover you for the repair cost. And in some cases they may not even cover the cost of the OEM version because they weren't on your car at the time of the accident.
But check w/ your insurer. Lots of companies have variations of some policies, especially in different states.

i considered wating to call but after the guy pulled out after being kind of a **** about it i went in and called his insurance company, hes got gieco so i have no idea whats gonna happen, i start a new job on monday so i cant go during the week to get prices or anything, they seem shady though, i have to drive to hartford for them to look at it not to mention the car has to sit now because the trunk wont stay closed and even if it did it'll leak water like crazy.
I was thinking about the 97 conversion as a last resort, the fronts already done but i like the way a 96 rear with red clears looks over a 97 with red clears. Really the only reason im so pist is the tail lights cuz i had to wait so long to find a set, my new full time job is at an import salvage yard doing internet sales so i wont pay much at all for the lid and bumper and inner tails. i only paid 500 bucks for a motor with 17k miles on it and a mint tan leather interior from a 99 inluding carpet and head liner and pretty much everything...but we'll see im gonna try to take pix tomorrow and post them...on the bright side i did need a new rear bumper and maybe i can weasel out enough money to get the front end painted finally

Damn. red/clears are easily my favorite thing on the car.
I would suggest people keep a disposible camera in their car for such an event. Parking lots are private property and the police will usually not get involved. I have heard a lot of stories of how the perp can change their stories and it may be hard to determine who is at fault based on location of the damage.

I think it is more of the fact that you hit him from behind rather than Geico is just the bomb. I had them and pretty much the same situation. Guy was at a yeild sign, no cars coming, he goes. I was looking to check for approaching vehicles, since it was a curve, I figured the guy ahead of me was gone, so I am easing on past the yeild sign. Guy decides to stop for no reason, I swerve at the last minute and damage the right side of his rear bumper. I get dropped by Geico. I tried to contest it, but they kept saying, no he can stop whenever he wants I shouldnt have been following too closely, etc.

That sucks big time. People should take responsibility for their actions.
I had an experience where a lady was standing and leaning on the inside of the passenger's side door on the car next to mine. The only problem was that her door was leaning on my driver's door. I politely asked her to be careful (she yelled at me, saying WHAT,WHAT, WHAT, NOTHING HAPPENED COME SEE), and a little later after getting the kids inside my car, the daughter who was in the driver's seat also started yelling at me. She had the nerve to say that her car was more expensive than mine. It was pretty bad, she even started calling me racial names. So I guess according to them it was ok for them to hit my car, but not ok for me to say nicely, to be careful.

That makes me mad! I can't believe how stupid some people are...they're brought up never having to take responsibility for their actions so they never take the blame. That guy shouldn't be driving that huge GMC if he can't look behind himself when he's backing up.
I hope it all works out okay for you.

wow, that just sucks, i had the same thing happen to me a while ago, not by an idiot like that who as well assumed how much it would cost to fix ($300 my ***). luckily, i have a 97, so when my friend's mom backed into my parked car w/ a ram, i was able to get everything back the way it was, and the red/clears.
