Ipod Itrip

I just bought an Itrip for my Ipod and tried it out. Theres some static, though it changes depending on where I put it. I was wondering, could I splice into the antenna wire directly behind the reciever, possibly with a wire tap, and just trail some wire out in front of the dash? If I did this, I coulld put my Ipod right next to the antenna wire. If it's possible, what kind of wire should I get?

I dont think the FM way is way to go. I just tried the xtrememac airplay (basically the same as the itrip) and got the same results. I tried the cassette adapter back-to-back and its way better.

Does your wireless FM modulator have something that you can splice into the antenna? I'm confused, I thought the point of that iTrip is that it is wireless. (You definitely cannot, lets say, splice a wire for the headphone output into the Antenna if that's what you meant, but I don't think it is...)

To do this you need a wired FM modulator, which is powered by the car and has an on/off switch; it goes in-line with the antenna. When turned on it broadcasts to a preset frequency, and you just tune the stereo to it (same thing as your iTrip, only it is wired.)

Also, are you using a stock deck? If you have an aftermarket deck, most brands have a adapter you can plug into the CD-Changer jack that provides RCA aux inputs that you can then get a minijack -> dual RCA splitter and connect your iPod or any other AUX input to.

itrip is useless, unless your happy with static everywhere you go. Even tape deck adapters will give you noticeable static. I'd go with a 99$ HU with 1/8" AUX input for a clean sound.

Yea, theres alot of static. What I wasnted to do was splice into the antenna directly behind the deck, and lead that wire out in front of the dash and put the ipod right next to it, so it could be right next to the antenna.

I'm stuck using an Itrip for now as i don't have time to hardwire it. But it's coming i have orded the harness for my clarion. If you put the volume on the ipod over 75-80 percent then it will start to distort horibly. I usually run mine at 50 % volume and it great. But i also have the car charged plug in all the time, this does increase the power avialable to the itrip therfore extending the range. I just keep it on the seat for easy access.
