Took my car to Nissan on saturday, Had all my belts replaced cause it was time. I also asked to have my tires balanced, rotated and aligned because my car steering wheel shakes when driving over 65.

They replaced the belts, rotated the tires and balanced the wheels.

These are the things Nissan suggested:

recommendations: fuel injector service, throttle body service, power steering flush, transmission flush, engine flush at next oil change.

Found R/F (right front) RIM BENT - Rotated to rear
R/F Inner Tie Rod bad - estimated with alignment $370.00 + tax.

What do you guys suggest I get done?? I have been doing the self trottle body cleaning like most of you guys here, and I have also been pouring in Techron fuel system cleaner once in a while to keep my fuel system clean. IS there any better one's out there then Techron? Also My question was that does anyone know if Nissan does anything special when cleaning the fuel injector or throttle body or do they just pour that stuff in as well?

Get a 2nd opinion on the Tie rod asap.

Makes sense it was on the same side as the bent rim. Guess you hit a curb pretty hard recently?

The bad rim & tie rod were probably what was causing the shaking.

Well acutally I am pretty sure I havent dropped my car in a pot hole in a while cause I have been noticeing the shaking since a while now, I took it into Nissan after a long time and I guess they noticed it while other shops didnt.

Honestly I like Nissan Koppel specifically much more over other shops when it comes to diagnostics because of that. They know what to look for and are pretty good at letting the customer know. They have told me I dont need a wheel alignment even after I specifically requested it cause they felt i didnt need one, while I think other shops would have just done it to make money.

FYI - Nissan charged me $140 to replace all the belts.

Is this the first time the belts have been replaced? What is the mileage on the car?
When do the belts typically require replacing?

 

I recently got all my belts changed too...I think it was the first time they were changed. So im guessing...maybe...at about 60K miles??

 

I replaced mine at 80K or something....this was the second time. I think the normal is around every 30K they have to be checked.

So Whats the best way to clean the fuel injectors myself? How does Nissan do it? I just drop in a 20 gallon Techron fuel sytem cleaner. A while back I remember a post about it and everyone sayd Techron was the only one recommended by Nissan....is there anything better out there now I can use? Is the fuel injector service worth it from Nissan??

My car loves FP (Fuel power) which is made by lube control distributors, i give it a few ounces just about every tankfull. You can read about it on BITOG its real good. Nissan uses a pressurized cleaner to clean the injectors, it can be purchased by consumers but its a few hundred bucks. My guess is with techron (which IMO is the best OTC cleaner) every so often and premium gas your injectors are fine. But you may wanna give FP a try its cheap at $25 per gallon (which treats alot) you may also wanna try LC for your oil, tranny, and PS.

 

That was the dealership that was famous for the NY Post ad, $16,995 brand-new 1999 GXE (also had the same ad in Chinese etc.) My friend and I decided to call their bluff and go into the dealership and see if we could really get a brand-new GXE for that price. No joke, the dude gave us the VIN#'s of cars they had for that price, and said to get the price we have to pick up the car by Sat. (meaning we had 7 days to close the deal and drive away). It was an interesting experience, because that's NYC--they can't lie about what they have. Seems in NJ/PA they can put a number like that in the paper and you wont be able t get the car.

 

NY has some nice rules on bait and switch schemes. Still doesnt stop all the bad dealers tho.

Yeah, here in PA, when this chick was looking for an Elantra, I said I'd check it out for her. I kid you not--the paper said $14,495 list, sell, $8995, brand-new. So I went to the dealership to see what was up. First of all, the car had a list in the 12's and they jacked up the price by pinstripe, $800, fabric guard, $600, you get the idea. Then, they had a discount if you flunked college the 2nd semester of your junior year, $500, another discount if you were 6'1 and weighed 200.5 lbs and one leg were shorter than the other, it was amazing. In other words, the only way you would buy the car for $8995 is by paying that plus whatever it took to reach the factory list (get it? You get the bogus dealer add-ons no charge). Real scam.

That's why it's nice in NYC when you see that crazy price, like the $16995 brand-new Maxima in 1999, you could actually buy it for that price. Good job Consumer Affairs in nYC.

 

redline makes a system cleaner for injecters and all it is freaking awesome great stuff my mpg went up a a tad i was surprised. also Restore makes a great one with octane booster it is also very good.

 

you can do the throttle body service yourself it was my first DIY thing i did on my car
