This is the kind of car I am buying. It is a 1997 GLE with 118K Miles. What kind of maintenance should I expect to have to do on it?

 

Since its coming up to 120K, expect to do the 60K service for the 2nd time. Buy a Haynes manual and it details what to do. Also try and get the maintenance history for the vehicle, as well as the owner's manual which details the service schedules.

The following may need to be done:

Oil change, including filter.
Rotate tires.
Inspect and replace if necessary the windshield wipers.
Replace the air filter and fuel filter.
Check and replace if necessary the spark plugs and PCV valve.
Service the cooling system (drain, flush and refill).
Change the automatic transmission fluid (probably should flush, rather than drain and fill).
Inspections: drivebelts, hoses, fuel system, brake system, exhaust system, CV boots, EGR valve.
Flush power steering fluid.
Clean throttle body and idle air control valve.
Check wheel alignment.

etc. etc.

 

dont forget the water pump... Check the coolant level often.
