Tint Windows, How much?

I am repainting my car tommorow. When I get it back I want to tint the windows. How much did it cost for you guys to tint your windows? Does it cost more for darker? If so why? Also I have seen some stuff around where it goes by percent. It the lower the percent is, does that mean it's darker? Whats a good percent? I don't feel like going to the shop and choosing the first choice and getting ripped off. Sorry I never did any mods on any of my cars. I am thinking after putting the 5th Gen GLE rims and getting the clear bumper lights and Altezza lights, also get a sound system since the speakers are burnt. If you got any ideas of what I should do tell me. I don't have to much money to mess around with since I am only 17 though. Thanks!

Yep, the lower the % the darker. Check your states tint laws to see the legal limit, and then go from there. I have 20%.

20% is a good number... 35% is good, but only if you have a black interior. I have 35. Cost me $130 for all four windows and the rear windshield.

Best for what? Not being able to see at night? Guys keep saying 5% is best. The only thing I can think of it being best for is limos. Maybe in Cali you guys don't have laws limiting your tint, but we on the East coast have police just looking for those limo'd cars. I have 20%, and it is plenty dark enough but still safe enough to have clear visibility at night.

Laws are . 20% four side windows and 15% rear windshield and small back windows. Same tint as tranz same price. IMO 20% isn't dark enough and 5% is too dark.

^5% isn't limo tint DOC.

So then what do you consider limo tint? Basically 5% is as dark as limo, no?

You still have to agree that 5% is way too dark for safe nighttime driving visibility, though.

I didn't argue that. That's why I have 20%. The first week of night time driving was a little tough but you adjust. The guy who got me my tint deal has 5% all around and man, that's dark.

Every state has a maximum tint percentage and usually the front windshield is less. Most tint shops ignore the law and will do what you want. If the cops bust your butt, its more because they're po'd at you and can't figure out what else to write you up for. I have never heard of any cops carrying some kind of light measuring tool to actually be to check tint levels.

untrue....there is a tint called smoke tint...its very light from the inside..but dark on the outside...very easy to see at night...and it locks out the damn beams on passing beamers and mercedes...titanium...is mroe reflective..and in the case...it would be too dark to see outside.

over here they dotn check tint levels...since anything in the back is legal..and anything in the front is illegal..they just drive by to check if they can see your seatbelt..if they cant see it...automatic ticket for u.

I hear you, THT. Mine are 20%, and at times they are still a little tough to adjust for at night.

They give you two tickets? One for too dark tint and one for no seatbelt?

Interesting. Do you have this on your car? I did not know something like this was available. Someone should develop a kind of photosensitive type tint (like in glasses)that lightens and darkens according to outside lighting brightness. No doubt it would cost a fortune, though.

they tried but the broblem is even with the glasses if you noticed when its cold out they turn dark dunt know why but it does and thats the problem with chamelion film that was a concept it would turn too dark when it got cold
and it would cost about 200$ a window a terible to work with

i paid $75 for my back window n tinted the rest myself. I guess that near nj and new york is where its most expensive. 5% in the rear n 35% in the front. I believe that if you're a good enough driver, you should be able to drive with 5% in the rear with no problem. the only time i have a problem is backing up at night, other than that, there is no problem of driving at all

See? That's what I thought! I thought Limo tint was 5%. Who in their right mind would put four layers of any tint on their vehicle? Sounded like a croc to me, but I don't have the inside info to argue this. Thx for the help I30...

I got DAVE SZ, THT, and Tranz their hook up. 5% is limo tint, in technical terms. I have 5 % all around. They have all seen from the inside of my car out and it would surprise many of you as to how clear it is. The 4th gen maxima has big flat windows, that's the reason the better visibilty form them. The sharper the angles of the windows the more reflective the tint is. Real limo don't have just 1 shade of 5%, trust me, it would be easy to see inside of one with their interior lights on. My tint guy has 20% and 5% on top of that. It's dark, but it's only his rear windows......... here are a few of the hundreds of pics of my car http://photobucket.com/albums/v452/hectorc/3-30-2005/
BTW, my 5% was free
