ok one of my o2 sensor is malfunctioning and I get about 270 miles with 16 gallons. How do much do you all expect the fuel mileage to increase after I install the o2 sensor? The o2 sensor is one of the back ones in leading to the exhaust.

It depends if there is a head wind or a tail wind. The downstream 02 sensor doesn't affect fuel economy, but the first two do. I suspect it is an upstream O2 sensor you need to replace. Suffice it to say that 270 mpg on 16 gallons is pathetic, that's less than 17 mpg.

 

Hmm, maybe you're right because I checked my ecu and the error showed me that its the right front o2 sensor. However last time if I remember correctly, I went to Advance Auto Parts. The guy over there detected the problem via obdii. The receipt showed rear o2 sensor circuit board malfunctioning or something. I don't remember fully.

 

i was doing 18mpg when my O2 was malfunational. after i installed a new one i get about 23mpg....

 

i just ordered one front 02 sensor ... been getting abt 18 to 20 mpg on city/highway mix .. hope the new O2 sensor improves my mileage

 

I originally got 27mpg avg (mostly highway), front o2 slowly died, mileage hit 24.5mpg, said screw this, bought new front o2 sensors ($80 from oxygensensors.com) and now I'm back up to 27mpg+ yay

 

I need to replace one of my oxygen sensors too. I'm not sure how to calculate miles per gallon, but I got about 570 km (approx. 350 miles) and I was left at 1/8 of a tank of gas. I have been driving a little harder too - gotta pass those gravel trucks, pulp trucks, and tourists! I'm hoping my mileage will go up once I replace it.

 

i've got the ugly 0420 code for the right front heated o2 sensor. I keep forgetting to call in to see if that 'group' deal is still going on though. can anyone confirm?

 

The conversion factors are on page 0-19 of your Haynes manual. I trust you own one. So 570 km x 0.621 miles/km = 354 miles.

I got mine at a franchise called Lordco for about Cdn$20 all in. I'm not sure if they have Lordco in Ontario. If not try Canadian Tire.

So the next step in your education is converting litres to Imperial gallons and then to US gallons. Say you filled up the tank with 1/8 left and put in 55 litres (the tank hold 67 litres). That equates to 55/4.546 = 12.10 Imperial gallons. To get to US gallons multiply by 1.20 = 14.52 US gallons. Based on the 354 miles you drove that equates to 24.4 miles per US gallon or 29.3 miles per Imperial gallon.

Now dig up your receipt and try this again, lol!

 

man i get like lame *** 270 too. i can squeeze over 300, i've done it before but lately its just really been suck a$$. Since my o2 sensor thats bad is the rear one, replacing it really doesnt help me at all, well it helps me empty my pockets faster.
i dont know what else to do to improve gas mileage, and i really dont drive heavy footed either.
although i have wondered, when i DO floor it around 25 and it down shifts and let off whenever it gets through the downshifted gear, how much gas i actually waste. Like how many miles worth.
