I'm redoing my entire interior with red leds (window switches, hazard/defrost, climate control, and Bose headunit). However, the resistors I have are quite large and I can't use them for the hazard/defrost part of the mod though they work for everything else. Therefore since the resistors won't fit inside the buttons themselves I'll need to cut the power wires in the harnesses and solder the resistors into those, so I was wondering if anyone knows which wires in each harness (hazard and defrost) is the positive power wire. Fill me in if you know, thanks!

 

are you bending your resistors like this?


they should have enough room if u bend it like that. i did mine and they fit snuggly.

 

What size resistor did you get. 1/8 watt 1/4 watt or 1/2 watt?

 

looks like an half or quarter watt from the picture, too lazy to get my guide it.

shouldn't matter too much on an LED, though half watt would make sure it was fine.

 

My resistors are much bigger than that. I'm using 82 ohm 2 watt Allen Bradley resistors. The resistor itself is much bigger than the led, about 3/4in to 1in long. That's why I'd like to know which wire in each harness is the positive power wire so I can cut it and solder the resistor into there instead

 

are you sure your LEDs wont be too dim?
u could dremmel yourself some room in there if you wanted, i did with my guages. dont know what youre working on looks like, i havent done this yet.

i redid all of my window switches and never put resistors on and they work good, although there are already resistors on the board itsself. ive never opened up the dash to see the climate control stuff. i think i will soon though and maybe do that as well.

Your window switches already have resistors built into the boards since the stock bulbs are also leds. But the climate control and hazard/defrost buttons are all small incadescent bulbs so you need a resistor in the circuit.

Dayglo i'm positive the LEDs won't be too dim. What most people do is use a small resistor on each LED, instead, since I'm using all the same type of LED, I can just put one larger resistor in the circuit instead and get the same results (when you look at the pic with what I did with my climate control you'll see what I mean). It's not possible to dremel the kind of room I need to fit these bad boys in

 

Dude those are some huge A$$ resistors. I dont have LED's in my car yet but that doesnt look normal. I could be wrong

 

dang dude.. that is one huge a$$ resistor. If you really want, just paypal me a stamp and i'll mail u some of my extra resistors. that way you can use those for the hard to reach places.

 

Thanks man I'll paypal you in the morning. All you need is a stamp? I don't mind giving you a little extra, it's your call. It's 4:30am though and I'm pretty tired, lol. And pissed! I forgot to put a resistor in the circuit for the Bose headunit and of course the second I turned it on POOF! All the LEDs blew out....so now I get to take it apart and do it all over again!
