Wondering if anyone knows if there is a difference between the cat flanges of a 95-96 Maxima versus the flanges on a 97-99 Maxima. I have a 99 and the rear flange of my cat is angled slightly clockwise (as you look from the rear toward the front of the car). I recently installed a 95-96 Greddy SP2 catback (which I bought because I like the way the tip fits better than the 97-99 SP2) and it's great except for the B-pipe hanging way too low.

My hunch is that the angled flange on my cat is the sole cause of this, and that no, Greddy was not stupid when they designed the 95-96 SP2, it's just that the 95-96 Maxima cat doesn't have the same angled flange. Can anybody confirm? Pics would be very helpful.

 

well this is off topic but my whole exhaust system looks like yours i mean the exhaust hangers 2 be exact. mine are sooo streched out and need to be replaced, jus b/c i upgraded my ypipe. but regardless it was worth the stress and the time.

btw does your whole exhaust system rattle? and shake? if so how did u fix it?

 

i swear they are the same. i can really double check for you as i have both.

 

My exhaust does not rattle or shake and my rubber hangers are fine. I'm just trying to get the B-pipe to sit right.

do you have a OEM cat? Of not and someone messed up welding the flanges. They cant be moved much because the bolts would hit the crimped part of the cat.

 

Yep, I have an OEM cat. I don't understand the rest of your post.

 

If you had a universal or something else, maybe the flanges were mis aligned. but im guessing your oem cat back fit great, so nevermind. ill have the 2 cars in the driveway today, then i can chec them.

 

well i checked and they look identical to me.

Thanks for the pic 96Max, it looks like the front flange of your cat is angled, but I can't see the back flange from that shot.

 

I can see it, the flanges are pretty much opposite. The front is like this \ and the rear is /. The cats are the same for the 4th gens, flange angle wise. If the b-pipe sits low it's cause of the flange where it meets the muffler pipe, not the cat. Maybe the muffler is made in a way that if it sits perfect it throws the b-pipe off.

 

it is all the same, but the catback on the 99 is longer


i just tried installing my megan catback and it is 6+inches to short right after the cat.

I dont know if its cause im cali spec or if its cause he sent me a 96 exhaust for 99

 

since the 97-99 bumper is a few inches longer the 97-99 muffler has a slightly longer exit pipe. the b pipes are all the same length from cat outlet to muffler inlet. Its just that 97-98 and some 99's have the s pipe behind the cat, which makes the b pipe shorter. But with the 2 connected they are the same length as any other b pipe. Since nissan made so many revisions to the emissions, it gets rather confusing. you have got to love the 3 locations for the rear O2 in a 4th gen.
