I don't understand how a S2000 can outrun a Maxima.
The Maxima has 215ft/lb at ~4000RPM while the S2000 has like 130lb/ft at higher RPMs?
Also for a street light race up to around 70km/h (45mph), wouldn't the Maxima beat it off the line cause it has more tourque at lower RPMs?

Also, an S2000 puts down about 10 more hp than a 2k Maxima. (Ive seen his dyno plots as well as mine on the same dyno, which the S2000 owner happens to own!) Thats difference #2.
Its a power to weight ratio thing. A little more hp, alot less weight = a faster car. If you want to win the race, make the S2000 owner shift at 6000 rpm (VTEC switchover), instead of 9000. Then, you win the race for sure!
But we can seat 5
. Thats my weak retort!
I'd be willing to bet that on the road I could beat 7 out of 10 s2000's.. The fact is that the car does lack torque, high revving power is great and all but it takes tact and calculation to get at it. The Max has power on demand and I'm sure that in a real world driving situation the Max would come out on top. My wife has a 2k Civic Si, which produces 160 hp from a 1.6 liter but only 111 tq, so with plenty of experience driving it I can tell you that you'd have to drive damn well to beat a car like a 4cyl accord which has less hp but more tq. From the line yeah the Si will win but with a 5k rpm clutch dump and only then. from a roll on @ 30mph w/ the Si in 3rd...the Si driver would have to drop to 2nd and wait for vtec while the accord runs away or go to 1st and have to shift again almost immediatly losing time again...it's a cold fact of reality that tq wins a race in a normal driving situation. That's what sucks about the S2000, it looks great on paper that it can do a 14...whatever 1/4, but in the real world the car does'nt have the ***** to cut it.
Honda's make great power for their size and what they are, but they are just small 4 bangers, and unfortunately that leaves much to be desired when driving on the road. Handling is another issue all together and I wouldn't even try to keep up with an S2000 through the twisties...

I have read in an article in a car mag that the S2000 is fast when you can drop the hammer but it was very stressful on the tranny and it was highly not recommended. The article said that the real power doesn't kick in until high RPMs. Not too many people drive around the city at 7000 rpms. It does not have the passing power or street acceleration in normal use. too bad you have to gun it and rev high just to get a little power!@!
I raced a red one and lost only about two car lengths. lol That was before the Y-pipe. maybe now it will be 1.8 of a car to about 60MPH
On an important note. I got a perfect launch, and we were side by side pretty much through my first gear. So its no corvette. However after that, he's gone, confirming its great pull at higher RPM. With more Tq, this car would be killer. It just doesn't have enough ***** off the line.

While I respect your thoughts, Id be very surprised if your Maxima could beat an S2000. My friends runs 13.8's consistently. Even from a roll, he walked me quite quickly. In a race to say 100 mph, A 5th Gen 5 speed Max would probably be behind by at least 5 cars.
But, I will have the Y-Pipe and CAI on by this Friday for the track. His S2000 will most likely be there! Ill repost with the results. Ive seen your dragtimes.com post, and my max ran a tad slower than yours, most likely due to the heat. Its supposed to be in the 70's on Friday night, so 14's will be in the bag for Mad Max. Im hoping for maybe some upper mid 14's (14.6-14.7) and 96-97 mph with the new mods and favorable weather as opposed to the 15.0 @93.7 I run (pretty much every time) in mid 90 F heat.

well, you're probably right. i was half in the bag when i wrote that and well you know...i think i have the fastest car in the world when i'm that way. The s2000 is a nice car but i think it just lacks the personality of the old british roadsters. Shifting at over 8k is fun but i'd rather do it on my bike than in my car.

How many S2000 owners will redline to 9000rpms just to race any of you? I know I wouldn't do that to it if I owned one. By the way since the honda has no torque, the max should have the lead from the beginning unless the S2000's clutch is dropped at over 5k rpms. If any of you wanna race one just don't start when the cars are moving and stay on a straight road, because obviously the S2000 has a better suspension.

And, I can say with confidence that it is not my driving skill. While I dont claim to be Big Daddy Don Garlits, Ive made a gazzilion 1/4 miles runs with quite a few different cars and have rarely lost a race due to a reason than other than being outgunned.Damn...where or where has my blue bottle gone....Aha! There it is!
As far as I can tell, just about every S2000 owner will rev to 9000 in a race! Those cars love that rpm, and dont suffer any abuse from it.
