I have had a recurring problem with my car stalling and also not starting for the last 100k miles I have owned my car. I have taken it to nissan service 3 times. First time they replaced what seems to be a ground wire coming off the MAF. Second time they found no problem. Both times the car was still under the 36k warranty. Now my car has 140k miles and the problem has never gone away. Sometimes after cranking the engine a lot without starting I get a MIL light. After checking the codes it always gives me the 0101. Camshaft pos sensor. I have replaced it 2 times. Today I took it to Nissan dealer again.(to seek professional help)... he calls me 10 mins ago and says: You need a new camshaft position sensor. I spent 20 mins on the phone with the guy yesterday explaining that he was gonna get that code and that I had replaced it 2x already. He must not have been listening. I am not paying to replace the thing again.... they want 288$ to loosen and tighten one bolt. I suggested to him that I had read on this forum about a possible broken wire that causes this in the wiring harness..... he kinda chuckled at me and kept going with the price breakdowns...... I dont know what to do... I love my car, but its so damn embarrasing when it acts up or stalls at a light. U folks have any ideas?

 

Check/Clean the grounds on the lower intake manifold.

 

does your car idle rough ? Because when i got that code too, it turned out to be my egr valve was stuck open. I also got crankshaft pos sensor as well. So look into the egr valve.

 

According to the Haynes shop manual, 0101 points to the upstream oxygen sensor heater or circuit fault, not the camshaft sensor. An O2 sensor shouldn't cause a stalling condition, but a faulty camshaft sensor sure would. If Nissan just told you that sensor is bad, replace it.

It IS possible you've got another defective camshaft sensor.

My book says DTC 0101 is caused by the Camshaft Position Sensor (Phase). This sensor is located on the engine front cover facing the camshaft sprocket. It detects the cylinder number signal. The Engine Control Module uses this signal to control spark plug firing order and also to sequence the fuel injectors correctly. If the CPS is bad the ECM will fire the plugs at the wrong time, or not fire them at all. This would account for a no-fire symptom.

Interesting, I think somebody else on here pointed out that mistake in the Haynes manual as well. The error code 0101 is printed twice in the manual with two different definitions. I'm going to make a note in the book that corrects the misprinted information.
