I was talking to a local tire dealer, who said that Yokohamas are made with outdated equipment, and that many of them are not round. They said that the quality control of, say, a Michelin will throw out tires that are on Yokohama's first line. Anyone have a bad experience with Yokohamas, or even heard of one? Up until now I think I've only heard very good things. That would suck to get a bad tire, which the company would not replace. Thanks for any experience..

budha56, I put a set of Yokohama Avid T4s on my wife's car about 6 months and 10K ago. No problems, balanced up fine and haven't experienced any rim leaks. So far very happy with them. They handled well in the snow (live in Maine) and they are reasonably quite on the road.

Hope this helps. Oh, bet you the person that made the remarks regarding quality on the Yokohama's sold a competing brand of tires.

Actually, they were one of the employess of a store that sells almost every brand. They recommended BF Goodrich Comp T/A HR4 instead. Both tires are about the same price for the H rated, but I was also considering the Z rated Yokos. Thanks for the experience, though. You see what I mean? I've only heard good stuff like that. He said that some tires are good, and some just don't come out round. He made it sound like every other tire is bad or something.

budha56, I've heard some good things about the BF Goodrich Comp T/A. Good value, balance up well. You may want to check out www.tirerack.com as they will give you consumer survey ratings on the various tires. Neat stuff, check it out. This is what sold me on the Avid T4s. I think there was something like 1.2 million miles reported on the feedback as miles driven (relative to the T4s).

Yeah, I've checked tirerack.com and I'm considered the Avids, but I'm looking at the H4s. I want a higher speed rating than T. Thanks.

I had a set of Yokohama A540 V-rated tires on my last car. They were excellent tires. Now, Dunlop, on the other hand, is suspect in my opinion. The first set of tires that I had on my Maxima was Dunlop D40M2s. They were one step below the SP 8000s when the SP 8000s were Dunlop's best. Two of those tires were out-of-round and had to be replaced the next day.

I just stuck a new set of those BF Goodrich Reinforced Euro T/A on my rims, and yes, they did balance out perfectly. I think their best selling point on that line is the treadwear... somewhere around 340, pretty impressive. I think the grip is also pretty good, but not outstanding. I don't know if I was expecting too much, because I only have the Goodyear FZ1s and the stock Toyo Proxies to compare them to, the Goodyears being in a totally different class. But all in all, these were a great buy (~140 each for 225/40/18) and the treads look pretty nice on my wheels.

G-ride, what are the H4's like in the snow? You drive them in the winter? Anyone else know what they're like in snow? I can't afford 2 sets.
