I thought I read somewhere that our tow limit is 1000lbs. or something. So I would assume that a CJ plus trailer weighs more than that.

Really not sure on this, so you should check the manual.

You can probably find a Class 1 receiver hitch to fit but those are rated only from 1000-2500 pounds. And while the car certainly has enough power to tow more it isn't wise to do.

The 3.0 isn't as brutal on transmissions as the 3.5, which would turn the trans into livermush. The reason you don't tow much past the rated amount is because of braking. Nissan brakes suck to start with and a heavy trailor would onyl make that worse. And improper loading on the rear of the car can cause it to jack-knife.

This was actually a common problem with earlier Datsun and Toyota trucks. People quickly found out those things could tow twice their own weight in some cases, but many of them were destroyed because of jack-knives when they tried to stop.

I do not recommend towing a Jeep with your Maxima. Rent a UHaul truck with a trailer and you'll be fine.

I would not risk it. Just rent a car or SUV that already has a tow hitch and be safe.

If its a one time thing then I dont see a problem. Just be extra slow on starts and stops. Once you're rolling it should be all good.
