AVIC-D1 and steering wheel controls

I really want to buy this unit...but was told by crutchfield that there is no way to use my steering wheel controls with this unit, this would be a deal breaker for me

can anyone verify if this is true or not??

I have an AVIC-N1 and it has an optional steering wheel mounted remote that you can buy for it. It also has a voice control module you can install. Not sure about the D1, though I wish I had waited for that unit, it looks sweet. Someone else will be able to provide you more info.

If your radio has a wireless remote you can buy an adapter to use the steering wheel controls. Do a search on steering wheels control and you will find it.

good luck

Assuming the D1 comes with a remote control for it, yes you can get a PAC SWI-X and use your factory steering wheel controls.

You do know that the D1 isnt a dvd player, right?

if you have a remote for D1 then you can get an adapter that u can program to use your stock steering wheel controls to use with your D1. the only thing will be is where to wire the infrared sensor.

So I assume it doesnt have an infrared receiver, since the wired one is plugged in. If/Since it doesnt, then no you wont be able to keep your steering wheel controls.

That is unless you take apart the wired remote control and figure out what resistances the wired control sends the D1, then cut and splice all the wires for the wired remote control. All depends how good you are with electronics, and how badly you want those steering wheel controls.

If a wired remote is an option, then it sounds like the SWI-PS might work then. Would even be easier to install than the SWI-X.

http://www.pac-audio.com/products/swi.htm

Scroll down to SWI-PS there. A good idea would be to email PAC and ask them about compatibility though. THey've always gotten back to me on my tech questions within a couple days.

My current leanings are towards the eclipse simply because it includes navteq maps + routing. I've run some informal tests, and found that navteq tends to route better than teleatlas for my part of the country. (Frequently, the teleatlas will just do plain dumb things)

Also, the XM on the pioneer is an extra purchase, from what i recall..

I have another question related to the SWI-X controller. I just replaced my receiver with an aftermarket unit and have not had a chance to hook up the SWI-X controller. One thing that I did notice is that without the controller hooked up to the stereo the Maxima's (2002) trip options are not accessible.

Does anyone know if the trip options will be available when the SWI-X controller is installed?

I hooked up the steering wheel controls when installing my SWI-ALP. Here's the link to the PAC site for the 02 Maxima. Hope it helps you out.

And if anyone is looking for a SWI-X, I have one for sale...
