running wire thru firewall

Whats the best way to run my power wire from my battery to my amp. Are there any existing holes in the firewall that I could run it thru or will I have to drill a new one? I have a 1990 5 spd. any help would be much appreciated.

i put it through the grommet in the door jam.
around the enging bay tightly, through the very corner of the hood where it meets the door(underneath) and into the grommet. i just jimmied everything together because i wanted to do it quick and easy so its not the nicest setup

Umm dont do the above method, there is a much better way to run the wire. From inside the car, look at your gas pedal and then up and a little to the right, in that area there should be a rubber grommet that is plugging a premade hole in the firewall. It is a bit difficult to access from the under-hood side, but once the wire is through you should be able to grab it with a pliers and pull it up.

Thank you very much. I think that is the best way to do it.

I think I found that grommet. Do you have to drill a hole in the grommet and put it back in, to ensure water doesn't get inside the car?

Don't drill through the grommet; cut a small X with a razor.

I think its about time that there be an official "i can't find the hole" sticky

-that red thing is 4gauge you can most likely fit 2 gauge without modification considering I have a couple of other wires going through there too

edit: there was a rubber plug on mine, you have to pop it out, on the inside the whole is above the gas pedal

Look under your hood. Look to the right of the steering assembly. There should be space there. Inside your car there should be a pop out in the factory insulation behind the brake pedal. Drill there.

Ya I have to agree with Batxel we should have a thread telling everyone where the damn hole is. I know it would have saved me alot of time and money going back and forth to HD and Lowes trying to find the right drill bit that could cut through metal fit on my drill and be big enough to fit a 4 awg wire through.

Of course if I had looked right there I could have fit it right thourgh there...damn..

Batxel - thanks for the picture. I'm not sure if that will work or not for me since i'll be running 1/0gauge... Hopefully it will without modification because i'm not the best as far as drilling and stuff like that... I wouldn't trust myself to be drilling anything through my firewall.

Drilling is easiest. I didn't even bother looking for a grommet that would fit 1/0 gauge.

djfrestyl i'm sure it is easiest to just go ahead and drill but knowing my luck i would be like someone i read about that drilled through the firewall and hit a brake line or something...

Theres a large enough blank panel if you're automatic that should be plenty of room. Once you make it through, just dont keep drilling. If you were closer I'd help you out.

i checked the sticky in the faq, and found a picture of where a power wire was run through a grommet or "rubber plug", but it doesnt seem to be there on my car. i have a '99 5sp. here's the pic i found with this plug. can anyone help me out, i would rather not drill.
