Why no supercharger on the 5.5 gen?
Why no supercharger on the 5.5 gen?
Alright so I have been lookin around for a supercharger or turbo kit for a 2002 I35. Anyway I read in a post you can use a 4th gen supercharger on the 3.5 if you swapped the 3.5 into a 4th gen. But a supercharger will not work on the 3.5 in the 5.5 gen body. SO.. my question is why the hell not. I mean if its a matter of hood clearence or just relocating some parts I am sure someone would have done it already. Also I heard that people are working on adapting a G35 supercharger to fit the Max and I35 but where are we on this and what problems are coming into play? Let me know. There doesnt seem to be anyone (except one guy) who is willing to play with forced induction with their 3.5. The one guy being the only guy who has a supercharged 5.5 gen.
I think you mean a guy who has a supercharged 5th gen not a 5.5 gen, cause in that case I can use that same SC on my 04 max..
remember
5th gen: 2000-2001 (3.0)
5.5 gen: 2002-2003 (3.5)
I know they make the SC for the 4th and 5th gen (3.0) but not a 5.5 gen (3.5) maxima...
I'm one of those thinking of doing a SC from the 3.0 to a 3.5 engine, so if they had a SC for the 5.5 gen I would've used that one..

its a matter of the timing chain cover. if you swap a vq30 one which the SC is made for onto a vq35 and disable the variable cam timing mechanism then it can work. the vq35 has a different timing chain cover
its not a matter of which engine is in which car. and a rwd SC application would have terrible clearance issues in a tranversely mounted fwd application

I thought the s/cd Xterra used a 3.3 VG(IIRC) .... also with a roots type S/C ... Tell me more.

That's what a former co-worker told me. He has his own car shop and personal mechanic shop. Don't know if he knew about the 3.3 liter but said he had one installed(by his employee) in his shop. So I guess he just adjusted the timing chain like Larrio mentioned. This is in relation to Nmexmax's question.

Man... I just got my car and I cant wait to modify it. I want to do I/H/P/E as soon as possible but further down the road I want to build my I35 into basically an AMG hunter. If things work out with my job hopefully I will be making some good money. If things come together financially I really want to get the auto tranny built by NRH. Also in the future I would probably be willing to spend top dollar to get my engine built as well and do a turbo. But my real question is even if I'm willing to spend upwards of 20k on the engine and tranny alone can I get a setup that is reliable and useable enough for daily commuting as well as being fast enough to run in the 12s? I know I can get that sort of power but the real question is can I get that power and have a car that is still almost as reliable as stock?
