Feel bad, like I'm beatin on my car

Hey all I just got my 02 I35 a few days ago and I am coming from a 4cyl auto camry so as you can imagine this car is like a rocket ship to me. ANyway I have been flogging it kinda just because I cant stop flooring it. THe tranny is already starting to shift harder now because I have been flooring it too much. THat makes me kinda nervous but I know its because it is learning my driving style and adapting. Anyway tonight I was like man this car is already starting to feel kinda slow. So I got rolling at about 15mph and manually shifted the auto tranny into first got on the gass lightly untill the engine was at about 3000 rpm got off the gass to create some slack in the drive train and than punched it. I could feel the drivetrain slack at first untill the car really engaged and it actually squeeled the tires doing about 25. Remember this is a stock 3.5. Anyway it engaged really hard though and I feel bad every single time I floor the car. Its so nice I want to be good to it but I cant stop flooring it. Its too fun... I am in a moral dillema. I hope that this need to be on the gass subsides because deep down I really want to baby my car. DId anyone else feel this when they got their car?
sorry for the rant

Maybe it's because Nissan's auto transmissions suck? At least with a manual you decide how you want to drive it/when ect.

How many miles on the I35? Maybe a tranny fluid change or engine oil change is in order?

well I just bought it. It has about 48K on it. I got it checked out by a nissan dealership before I bought it from a subaru dealership (btw never go to Patrick Subaru in shrewsbury, ma they suck at life) and the nissan mechanic seemed really **** I mean he came up with over 600$ of work to do on a 02 I35 with 46K Mostly to deal with the brakes which needed to be turned and get new rear pads which we had the dealership do before we bought the car. So I felt good about the quality of his inspection. I seriously want to get the tranny built by NRH ASAP just so that I never have a problem with it and I can flog it all day and not have to worry. And that way it is taken care of before I start going crazy with engine mods. I already felt bad for flogging the car and my GF made me feel even worse cause she was in the car when I did it. I thought you guys were gonna be like ohh dont worry about it. but I guess the auto tranny really is that god damn bad.. Shame on Nissan... seriously.. this tranny sucks at life.

p.s. I just got the SES light after only 1000 miles out of the dealership. from what I have heard I just need to unplug the battery for an hour. Plug it back in and boom I'm ready to go again with no light. This makes me think that this light was already on before they sold me the car but they turned it off using their diagnostic software just so the light would be off long enough for them to sell the car.

Can't you take it to Autozone and have the error code read? Also, flogging a car...haha that term is classic. Are you from the South by any chance?

I went from a 99 Maxima Auto and then a 01 Pathy. My 02 6 spd. is a rocket ship and so much fun to drive. I try to keep the rpms under 5k. But I love the feel.

Naww I'm actually from Mass. Living in NH though right now. The whole NH hick thing really wore off on me quick though. I just bought a gun and thats my other favorite toy. Cars and guns are totally me. So I guess I could probably fit in pretty well in the south. I have always used the term flogging.. Dont know where it came from. I am deffinatly the only gearhead I know so I must have gotten it from reading online and in magazines.

I didn't mean anything derogatory by asking if you were from the South, just to clarify. I too, heard the term flogging online on another car forum.

Naww man, no offense taken. As I said I feel like a ******* hick. I mean my biggest concern with moving back to MA is where am I gonna shoot my gun now? Now thats pretty damn hick. I should get my car checked at autozone. See what they say. I was figuring the SES light was just a light that came on at a pre-set mileage to remind morons to service their car and pay huge $ to get it serviced and get that light turned off. I dont think its an MAF because I test drove about 5 or 6 altima 3.5s and I35s before choosing this one. Some of which had the check engine light on and were slow (could deffinatly tell they had at least a bad MAF sensor) and this car in comparison to all the others was WAY faster. I mean non of the others could smoke the tires from a stop. And when I say smoke I really mean smoke. I dont mean just make a lot of noise. And thats without torquebraking it. Just nail it from a stop with the VDC off and the tires will spin freely and they are pretty new. It really was quite impressive to me. ALthough I dont smoke the tires really at all now that I own the car chirping is almost a must anytime I want to get goin quickly.

yeah I am deffinatly gonna get a tranny cooler ASAP. As well as either the first or second stage VB mod. Both of which suposedly reduce stress on the tranny but I hear the second stage shifts pretty hard. Like people in your car who dont know about cars would be like wtf is up with your car and I dont really want that on the I35.

I agree. I came from a 4 cyl 5 speed mazda protege and it was slow as hell. then i got my 02 auto max se and i couldn't stop flooring it because the power was unreal. Now after that car got totalled i got a 03 6 speed and man this thing is a rocket ship and i never feel like i am abusing the tranny because its an manual. Let me tell you nissan autos suck on the highway. My 6 speed is unreal on the highway.

P.S. I never had any problems with the auto tranny on my 02, but if you keep flooring it like that then your gonna kill it

I came from a 99 Accord 4cyl 4AT to the 02 Maxima so I know what you mean sciff. Once the novelty wears off, you might start to be less taxing on the I35. Then again, I've had my Maxima for more than 3 years and the novelty has yet to wear off.

There is no end to wanting more power. I had a 88 Dodge Dakota 90hp 4cyl, 96 Nissan Altima 150hp, then 2000 Maxima 222hp. Now, my 2000 maxima feels slow as hell and I'm itching to get a 2002.

there must have been something wrong.....i've got 42k on my car, every single mile was put on by me. i for one have only somewhat gotten that "punch it" urge out of my system, and i believe i run my car just like anybody else on the boards...and i'm confident that it'll last a great deal longer (no where near 223k or whatever but i'd say around 150k is when i'd expect to have to tear it open and go to work)

you can get it done at Maximum tunning in NY. it makes it so that your car shifts harder(Faster). and it makes your tranny slip less, so by making the tranny slip less it extends the life of it. if your going to have it done, i would def reccomnend the stage 2, and get the tranny cooler while u are at it.

well, i live in Boston, and i go down to NYC often, so i just went there and had them do it. but since you live in CA you would have to have them send you a new VB, than you have to send them your old one after the new one is installed. when i had it done, it was a summer special $350.00 but i think it is 400, or 450 regular. give them a call Jeff can give you all the info that you need. http://www.maximumtuning.net/

Guys, I really dont know what you are talking about flooring it too much its gonna kill the auto tranny.

I have an 01 which I have floored it sooo many times for 5 years (125k) and nothing is up yet. When you floor it it slips a little but when you drive normally its totally fine.

I have my parents 02 which I take like once a week and beat the hel out of it. The tranny stayed the same since the first day we bought it. I manually shift so many times when I redline 1st and 2nd, I cant even count. I start in first gear, i tap on the gas going like 60 in 2nd to feel the torque. The tranny is the same and it will be the same.
Nissan Trannys are strong believe it or not just like that guy with the 229k. You just gotta know how to upshift the auto tranny. I agree downshifting is bad, and I dont do that unless I have to stop very hard in an emergency.

My aunt's 2k2 Oddessy with about 120k had her tranny rebuilt this week. Thats crappy.

if you don't auotocross your ride, you don't know anything about beating on your car

In other words, don't worry about it.
