HIDTech Yellow foglight capsules

Hi guys. I poseted about this a while ago and did a search and can't seem to find it. I remember someone posted about the capsules they got from hidtech.com and they looked awesome. The problem is I am hving toruble getting in touch with them since this product doesn;t have a link and I can't just buy it. I filled out their request form 4 times already and no replies. Any1 know what I should do? Also What size should I get tihs in? I can't remember but an org member suggested 9005 or 9004 or something? Or are those headlights? Anyway something that the H3 ones are too small and that other size have a better fit. Can any1 please help me out with this? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Irish44J, Dr Roy, AKOGAN, are some who have done it, IIRC...

Here's one of many threads about it...

Judging from my past experience with them, it will take hidtech.com a couple of days to reply back to your email. However, you can just send payment via Pay Pal to <sales@hidtech.com> now for $37 in total. ($30 for capsules and $7 for shipping.) You want to make a note that you are purchasing the lexus yellow capsules for bulb size ????. Once you submit your payment, send an email to the same address noting that you just made a payment. Your replay back time will be less than a day. I have done this very thing a couple of times already and have not had a problem. If you are not comfortable with this method then just wait for their reply back to you.

Note: The 9006 capsules already have the medal bracket attached. The H3 ones do not have one but they will send some brackets w/ if requested.

I did the mod last weekend and I love it :-) Here is the e-mail I received from them when I inquired so feel free to e-mail them. I bought the 9006 and Irish's page has "how to" for it or feel free to ask me for help (PM me)... Their website is http://www.hidtech.com/retros.html#retroprices

E-mail from HIDTech:

Thanks for your inquiry. Each pair of Yellow capsule is $30 + $7 S&H. Our paypal address is sales@hidtech.com Please note that this item is sold as it with no return nor exchange, so please make sure you know how to work with this before you purchase.

Your are right, Maxima you will need 9006 type.

Please also note that they don't just insert over your existing halogen bulbs and then insert from behind the foglight. You will need to separate your front clear housing first, then secure yellow capsule onto your reflector housing by simply drilling three small holes and clip the tabs from the bottom of the yellow capsule in, then seal the front clear cover back. I would say this needs to be done professionally, and we also provide such retrofitting service. Our labor will be $120 (for Plastic foglight front cover only. We don't do glass) including return shipping for your foglights. Remember this is a one time investment, you can have yellow foglight for as long as your own your car.

Also for H3, it only come with yellow glass capsule without bottom metal bracket, we will also provide you a pair of metal bracket from 9006 type, but you will need to trim it sand it a little to fit Yellow capsule over, its quite a bit modification involved, well, if you are able to take apart your housing, modifying is nothing compare with all your other effort. If you are not ordering H3, you can disregard this paragraph.

In addition, we have experienced that some foglights might create fog due to excess heat trapped inside the yellow capsule. Again, your OEM halogen housing is not designed to fit yellow capsule over, so this mod MIGHT require you to down grade your 55 watt set up to H8 35 Watt set up. Actually 35 watt is pretty bright enough for the foglight. Anyways, please keep that in mind for the worse case.

Please email us if you have any other questions.

Sean

Yes, they offer yellow capsule retro services. However, I would recommend that you do it yourself and save money on the labor charge since it is very easy to do this mod on the 5th gen fog light housing.

Irish has a howto on his cardomain site. He recomends 9006 because they are larger and they have a metel base to attach to the housing. Dont know what year you have but one my 02 the foglights are not as deep as the 00-01 so my yellow capsules pretty much touch the lense. Heres irisi's howto.

PS. Good luck and they look awsome with Hid's

If your fogs are glass, HIDTech won't do them. Otherwise, very easy to do. Feel free to ask if you get stuck. BTW, in Irish's write-up, it says to remove everything from the housing even the back mounting plastic frame (part that looks like housing too and attaches to the bumper). My screws that are holding it would not come off so I left the back housing on while baking and had no problems with it, so I only removed the bulb and the wiring...

Also, in reguards to the retro fit. They will not touch your fogs if you have glass lenses AKA an 02 or 03. They only do plastic

Edit: one minute too late

I'm in Canada, wish I could help... Can you rent one anywhere? It is only required for drilling the holes in the back lenses...

If you want to avoid drilling, you could just cut off the arms that you are supposed to drill for and use the everhelping JB Weld to glue the coupsoles onto the reflective lens... Not sure if anyone has done this but that could be an idea...

Yellow fog lights are , why would you want those?
.

.
.
As to what igsy said about JB weld, I don't think it will work that way - the reflective surface of the inner lens is NOT condusive to things sticking to it. The first time I did it I tried to just attach it using high-heat epoxy, and they broke loose after a week or two. Drilling holes for the legs is really the BEST way to secure the sheath.

and you don't have a drill???? GO BUY ONE! Every man should own a drill - the basic power tool You can get a basic one for about 20-30$, and it will come in useful for other things as well. Or better, get a cordless drill, which is even handier. I use mine about every other day!

I do need a drill. How big a bit do you need to drill the holes for this?

I'm going to get a drill by the time I get these!

Thanks. I feel ashamed when I go home because my dad has man's garage full of tools. It is only until I am back at my apartment that I realize I should be borrowing them.

Irish - good point about the glue on the reflective surface. I did not think about it much just and I guess you have tried it. It would not be a best idea...

Progress - just take your dad's tools, I did it quite often until I moved some 60-70 miles away and then I just noticed how few tools I had of my own :-)

I know! I just visited my folks last weekend but they're 400 miles away so the borrowing is much more inconvenient.

Where can I find hi-temp clear silicone? Lowes doesn't have it. Autozone has it in red and black but not clear.

I am going to try Napa and Sears tomorrow, any other suggestions?

Edit: Also, the retaining screws holding the lens in are not coming out for me. They just screw and screw and go nowhere. I can't get them out.

I had the same problem... What I did was stick in something thin (I used a tip of a small knife) behind the head of the screw and pry it with one hand while turning the screw with the other... I used just a GE clear silicone with no probs yet...
