People who wraped their Y-pipes with exhaust wrap--
I’m putting my pipe on this weekend and am debating if I should wrap it first (just the flex section). For those who used exhaust wrap on their Y-pipes, which type/brand works best? Are they all relatively the same? I checked the local pep boys and say that they have some but noticed that they harden!?!? Is this what I’m suppose to use? It doesn’t make much sense to harden the ‘flex’ section.

Do not wrap the flex section of the y-pipe. Exhaust wrap is for applying to headers on race cars and serves no purpose on a daily driver, other than to retain moisture, salt and dirt which will ultimately destroy the component that is wrapped.
i wrapped my old cattman y to cut down on noise. i am in NC and hardly if ever use salt on the roads. my flex was fine after 2 years of being wrapped. i also wrapped my flex section in my hotshot headers for around 8 months with no issue to the flex. i also resold the cattman y on the org and flex still has no issues. i would think the winters would be harsher in PA than NC and might retain the salt/slag mixture that is used. i used dei wrap that i got off ebay and some blubyu2k2 had sitting around.
I have a WSP Y-pipe hence I am considering wrapping it. I've 'heard' that it can help reduce the bees in the can noise and don't want to have to redo it in the event of unexpected noise.
Bobo- I've heard of what you are referring too, but wouldn't a heated pipe evaporate the moisture collected in the wet exhaust wrap. Then again, salt would be a whole other problem. Also, I've read some articles on how a wrapped exhaust helps to retain heat inside the pipe allowing for more efficient exhaust flow within the pipe. Any experience or truth with that?
