Lots of power loss with ac on, normal?
The higher ambient air temps also make the car feel sluggish - so it may just be a combination of both the hot air and AC running that make the car feel lethargic. From what I understand though, at certain throttle (or perhaps change in throttle, e.g if you punch the pedal) the compressor is supposed to kick off to give you back any power it robs.

ac pulley will rob you of some power. if it's especially humid outside, your car will not feel as powerful. if its hot outside, the air is not as easy to compress, so you will loose even more power when comparing to the same humidity and low temp.
btw, it's proven, that on the highway you save gas when you have a/c on, and windows closed. at speeds above 45-50 mph(or somehting like that), open windows become a parachute for the car; the drag from open windows screwes up mpg worse than the a/c compressor.

My first car was a mustang and they said AC on was about a 20 hp difference. I never noticed it much, but id turn it off to pass the Ahole in front of me.
Now I drive an hour to and from work everyday and AC is a must in work attire. Ive been managing 25-27 mpg somehow too on super. I used to get 20 around town. Dont quite get it, but at these prices all take it
Yea, I've noticed that since its gotten hot over the past few months and i've been using the ac, i've been getting better gas milage. Not complaining, especially after paying $2.79 the other day
i was gonna make a thread about this! but not only does it feel sluggish and loud, but my tranny feels sloppy and shifting is horrible. the flywheel drops quicker it seems and shifting is jerky, is this just me?
While on this topic, my AC is squeeking. I think this is because I recently cleaned the engine (spray can of engine cleaner/degreaser) and probably cleaned off whatever lubricant goes on the belts etc.
Does that sound right, and what do I put on it? Thanks

yeap, same here, hot air robs horsepower too, plus with AC running, its not going to be the same as cool summer night, when you get cool air with AC off, its a big difference. so i try not to beat on the max on hot days.
