Got my revenge on the Stealership

Good news for people burned various times by dealership. I finally got my revenge. I got my 2000 GLE Maxima at 40k miles used. Luved it, then a week after I got it the engine coils went bad for the first time. Lucky me, I wasnt aware of the forums at the time so I paid with blood the 700 dollars to the dealership to have it fixed. I did a 1800nissan claim with no luck and then forgot about it thinking I had the revised engine coils and would never have the problem again.

Well Lucky me, 14 months later, and 14k miles they died again (We're just talking about one). Just out side of the 12 month 12k warrenty by the dealership. Well I didnt know they were out of warrenty and took it back to get fixed and ended up having to shell out another 700 bucks. You can tell I love these guys right? The service manager wasnt a d!ck to me but you could tell he didnt want to help very much. Said he made a few phone calls and could get me no help.

Well I'm F-edup with it at this point so I contact various friends/family and get a game plan. Letters. My how letters are powerful.

I wrote a letter to Service manager - Reponse was "call 1800nissan, nothing I can do"

wrote a letter to dealership manager - no response

wrote a letter to owner of all dealerships in ohio - "Take care of this guy now!"

I got a call, 4 weeks in to the process, on my cell phone, my home, my work phone all with messages to call the service manager back asap. When I call him he told me he'd reimburse me for the coils if I stopped with the letters. Because my next step was the City Attorney Office and BBB. Anyway here is the kicker guys that I know you've been waiting for. I Wrote in all my letters I felt nissan knew of faulty coils and should reimburse me for BOTH SETS OF COILS.

I'm getting a check in the mail for over 1200 bucks next week. Aint that some ****

Power to the pplz.

Nice!

So you paid approx. $1400 overall for the coils and are getting reimbursed $1200? Correct? That is awesome!

over 1200

sorry, I said over 1200 because the exact amount I'm not sure about until I have the check in my hand. I do think it will be closer to 1400 (Was like 686 and the first time like give or take 20 bucks... but you get the idea). But yea I am soooo happy.

you never should have paid for the first set of coils... all cars sold by dealerships carry a manditory 30 day warranty. They are kissing your **** because they know this and dont want you to call a lawyer, because then they can get an audit and be forced to pay back everyone they have ripped off just like you.... so they send you $1200 and cut the losses.

Maybe in some states/locales, but most dealerships sell used cars As/Is.

I know the coils are a common problem in 5th gen max's. But how do you know when they are bad?

My car did neither, it just hesitated on accelerations. I would hit the gas.... nothing for a few seconds, then blam it would kick in, took her to the dealer and it was bad coils, no cel, no sputter and no shake.

I thought it was part of the Federal Uniform Commercial Code that any Dealer HAD to give at least a 30 day warranty... It might be a New York ammendment... I will have to brush up on my UCC, I have not used it since my law classes in college.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/usedcar.htm

Federal law mandates there be a "buyers guide" warranty disclosure in the window of every car being sold at a dealership. When you buy a car, you sign that piece of paper saying you understand that the car is "as is" or if it is under warranty.

Some states and locales have implied warranties or warranties of merchantability/fitness. I know that in Utah, there is no such warranties.

That law does exist in FL. I bought my car from a small little used car lot, and on the way home the engine blew. Called the guy up at 11 that night, and he had a flat bed where it was left for dead the night before by noon the next day (Saturday, and 80 miles from him). He called me and told me to come get a vehicle to drive while he had a new motor put in. Cost me nothing.

Dealers suck

The people that sell the car are good where i bought mine. Englewood Cliffs, NJ Nissan

The service techs are f*&&(ing waste of organic matter. The service managers are kkk members. They were disrespectful to me so thats why i never get my car serviced there anymore since 2000.

Shoot. I'd like to see what you wrote in those letters. I've written letters before and threatened to report them to the BBB, state AG consumer affairs division, news media, etc. Nada.
