My driver's side front window on my 2k2 is all the way open and won't go up anymore. I did a search and came up with this thread which appears to be the same problem I'm having. Based on that thread I'm assuming my regulator is bad.

So I'm trying to remove the regulator (plus the glass). but have run into problems. I can unbolt the regulator assembly and motor from the door and move everything up a little, but with the glass still attached there's not enough room to get it all out. So I need to unbolt the glass. But to do that the glass needs to be raised so the 2 bolts attaching it to the carrier are visible/accessible in the door holes near the bottom. But as I said I can only move everything up a little - not enough to get access to these bolts.

So does anyone have any bright ideas on how to solve this? Is there a way to manually turn the motor and raise the glass?

I'm really hoping to avoid taking this to the dealer.

 

This happened to me on my first car (89 Pontiac Bonneville). I took it in to the dealer rather than drive around with a plastic bag on my window for more than a few days.

 

you wouldnt happen to have a picture of the inside of the door would you? I have had to disassemble quite a few motor/regulator/windows on my 4th gen but havent opened my door on my 03.

 

I had the same problem on my Max last year. I got the motor from a junkyard and tried to do it myself but ended up with some greasy hand and alot of frustration. I just took it to a auto glass place and they somehow got the window up in a couple of minutes and replaced the motor.

 

I had a similar problem in my max and went to the dealer and was covered under warranty.....

 

MY 03 did that a few days ago, but the problem seems to have fixed itself. I have 40,000 miles on my car now so warranty is over. I'll just wait to see if it happens again

The final update on this - I was able to fix it!

It took me about 3 hours last night to get the glass unbolted at the bottom. It's just a long reach in a very narrow space, so it was slow progress turning the two bolts. For one of them my wrench wasn't long enough to reach it, so I had to cruft up a custom extension.

Anyway, once the glass was unbolted I could remove the regulator / motor assembly. Bringing it out through the speaker hole turned out to be easiest. Once I had everything out, I plugged it back in and tried the switch. I could feel little clicks in the regulator as I switched it on/off, and then all of a sudden it started working again. I have no idea why.

A quick 1/2 hour to put everything back together and I was done.

Overall I'm very happy. The dealership almost surely would have charged to replace at least the regulator, plus they wanted $175 for the labor. So ended up saving at least $250.
