Sorry for this n00bish question, but I can't figure it out. Everyone's complaining about their Check Engine Light turning on, and I figure my poorly maintained, air filter on for over 20k miles, though it is stock, 98 would have the light go on.
When I start up the car, before I turn the key all the way, I see my Service Engine Soon light go on. Is this the light that everyone calls the CEL? or is the bulb out for my CEL? There's a blank spot in the middle of the right hand side, and I can't figure out what it is. stupid manual.
maybe i'm just lucky and my car runs ok. thanks for the help.

Check Engine Light = CEL
Service Engine Soon = SES light ... Different years Maximas use a different phrase, tehy both mean the same thing ...
Your car doesn't have a CEL, only SES light. Pull your codes to see if anything is wrong ...
