How to make your highbeams flash when the horn in honked write up and lots of pics
Some people ask me to make a write up of this so here it is. Of course I'm not responsable for what happens to your car. About the worst thing that will happen is you will blow a fuse if you don't wrap everything up well. This is a little more complicated then most of the other rewire how to's, so read the instructions a couple of times and decide if you want to tackle it. If you have any questions you can PM me or email me at bbplayer3232@yahoo.com
I wanted to make a way for the high beams to go on when the horn was honked to alert other drivers better. I originally ran a wire from the battery through a relay that went to the high beam wires and this worked fine while the lights were off. The problem was when the low or high beams were on it would send to much power to the lights and blew my bulbs out within seconds.
The only correct way to do this is to reroute the wires at the steering wheel. This way your lights will function properly during normal use and when you honk your horn, the high beams will come on and only give 12V and 15AMPS to each light. It will be just like pulling back on the light stalk.
Parts needed:
(2) Single pole double throw relays
10 feet (or so) of wire 16 or 18 gauge
Solder
(10) Female 16-18 gauge connectors
Tools/supplies needed:
Soldering iron
Wire cutters
Wire strippers
Screwdrivers
Here are the steps:
1. Disconnect negative terminal on the battery
2. Take apart the dash and steering column cover (use steps 1-2 from this website http://www.geocities.com/amixam69/ni...ash/step1.html )
3. Take out the 2 screws that hold the lighting stalk against the steering column.
(Here is a pic of one of the screws the other is on top)

4. Unhook these 2 brown clips. Do the small white one too if you have fogs

5. On the larger connector, cut the red wire with a yellow strip, strip the yellow wire, and strip the light green with black stripe (the one to the right of the yellow)

6. On the smaller connector, cut red wire with a white stripe, strip the red with blue wire

(Part 2)
7. Unhook this yellow connector and strip the green with white stripe wire (not in the picture)

8. Solder new wire (about 1 foot each) to each spot where you stripped or cut. Solder not only 1 but 2 wires to the green with white stripe wire from the yellow connector. Also connect 2 wires to the red with blue stripe wire from the small connector.

9. Put female connectors on the other end of each wire you added.

10. Here is how the wires connect to the relays.
relay #1

relay #2

11. Wrap everything up with electrical tape. Do it twice to make sure you don't have any problems down the road.
12. Plug the connectors back in. and attach the light stalk to the steering wheel.
13. Reconnect the battery.
14. Check to make sure it works like it is supposed to.
15. Put the dash back together
16. Now when you start the car the air bag light should be flashing.
To fix it do these steps:
A) With the drivers door open turn the key to the "on" position
B) Press the little rubber switch (driver's door switch), that detects weather the door is open or not, 5 times within 7 seconds
C) Turn off the car
D) Shut the door
E) Start the car
That is it. Now the next time someone not paying attention starts to pull out on you just lay on the horn and light them up as well. It will also help people to realize who is honking at them.

Props for taking the time to make the write-up! Very interesting mod. A horn is very dispersed and nonspecific in space (especially in traffic huh?). But, the high beams almost give the horn a sort of "bulls eye" effect. ---->*Hey, over here..yeah! it's me who is beeping at you!!!*
Hopefully you don't blinde any drunk drivers at nighttime though, sending them into another car or tree!

You think any of these people would act like this in real life? I highly doubt it. They would be too scared of bodily harm. In the comforts of their own home, is the only place they can get away with such acts. "flamers" is the perfect label for them, another word for "gay".

I don't know but if it starts popping up on all kinds of cars now, I will be pissed if I'm not getting some $$$. LOL

Would you get a ticket for startling a driver causing that person to crash into a tree because they were blinded by the high beams??? You could be setting yourself up for a citation or even worse. Just a thought, as for me this mod is useless. But you do have good how-to writing skills and I give you credit for this.

Light flash
I think a write-up would be used more if you could find a way to make the high beams come on when you unlock your car, like gran-dams do.
Helps you find it in a parking-lot, and lights your walk to it at night.

no one is goin to get blinded. The only thing that really is blinding at night is when a cop turns his flood light on behind your car before you even pull over.
This is no more dangerous than people installing hella horns or train horns to scare ppl on the road.
California DMV vehicle code (for Horns or Warning Devices, sec. 27000)
says that non-emergency vehicles must have horns audible enough for normal conditions, usually audible not less than 200 ft away. But must not be unreasonably loud or harsh sound. That's why noone really uses those air or train horns out here. Cops, ambulances, and fire units are considered emergency vehicles and are exceptions to the rule. And cops use those blinding light to discourage those who are getting stop from running away.
I'd say check with you local laws on this but basically laws from state to state are somewhat relevant to each other.

If anyone does the highbeam/horn mod please tell me how it turned out for you. I think 95/96 models have different wire colors but all the wires are in the same spots. I can tell you the right wire colors in needed just ask.
Also if anyone has any other electrical rewire in mind, please tell me I'm running out of ideas and I'm always looking for something else to wire up.
^^^ wouldnt this just be the same procedure tapped into the circuit that causes the dome light/interior lights to come on in all those scenarios? btw another thing would possibly be wiring ALL lights to flash intermittently as the alarm goes off. might make it a BIT more noticable at night.... and also make the stereo emit an annoying a$$ sound with the lights.... i dunno, would probably freak someone out.

My next project is to make my panic button on my factory keyless entry roll all my windows up and shut the sunroof. I am tired of rolling them down, then being asked by people to watch them go back up. I figure more people would want a write up on this then the horn/high beams mod. Also would you guys, if your interested in this, want them to roll up with just pressing the button once or holding the button down the whole time they were rolling up? Or maybe no one else wants to do this. Let me know.

Who uses the dome light key for it's intended use, anyway? Unlocking the car does the same thing.

Where should I check?
