Best street tire 60 foot (slight update)
They started this stupid new rule at the track that the street class is 14.00s and up (there used to be a sport compact class, you could run 13s no problem, but it wasn't popular enough).
If you run 13s you go with the semi-pro class (Mostly V8 guys running 12s, 11s or 10s. Basically the class Jime races). I don't feel quite ready for that so I didn't bring my slicks and just kept the street tires. Even then I can run 13s but it's easier to slow down to 14.0 than it is with slicks. It's the first time I race with the traction bars & street tire combo.
After a f*cked first run (2.55 60 foot lol) and a so-so 2nd run (2.23 and 14.08@102) I settled to launching off idle as I usually do, and that did the trick, all weekend long the car would pull only low 2.1's and high 2.0's. The best was a 2.083. I have maybe 15 timeslips with 2.13's, 2.12's, 2.11's. 2.10's, 2.09's and 2.08's. A slight burnout seems to help.
Best run (first 1/8):
R/T=.013
60'=2.083
1/8=8.843
1/4=14.071@76.24 (to avoid breaking out)
Best run:
R/T=.025
60'=2.136
1/8=8.918
1/4=13.717@103.61 (they warned me after this one and this was the last (and only) run in the 13s)
Would be interesting to see what it pulls in a full all-out run. What I like about street tires is that I cut good reaction times, as opposed to slicks, where it's a hit or miss situation. Maybe it's time to run with the big guys...
I have Yokohama all-season Avid's, 215/60/15 on sawblades. 25 psi.
4th elimination round against a 12-second turbo civic (below) that was doing two classes (12.44 dial-in for the semi-pro class, and 14 flat for the street class). He was basically cruising, just keeping steady a little ahead of me. Beat him at his own game by flooring it completely for most of the run (thus certainly going under my 14.00 dial in), and then slamming on the brakes to a 14.02. He went under by .04.

Thanks. I actually pulled 2.08 3 times during the weekend so I doubt it's a fluke. I think it's possible to do a little better with ideal track conditions.

It will be interesting to see if they simply break loose once I get my car tuned (TONS of ignition timing advance, double digits certainly) or might hold because I launch off idle. When the track is colder like late at night, sometimes they break loose but only at higher RPMs unless I fudge the launch. Pretty wierd breaking them loose at 30-35 mph, then I shift into second (slowly, in my post tranny killing traumatic state) and everything's fine.

I just noticed his car for sale in the for sale forum, if anyone needs a good one.
Wow I didn't know he was selling it. I used to talk to him on AIM all the time but I haven't seen him on in a couple months. He always asked me if he should sell it and I kept telling him to keep it.

Beat my PB 60 foot again last night in the final round of eliminations (but had to hit the brakes afterwards). 2.033 with the Yokohamas. I did it only once though. Mostly 2.10's as usual.
Same setup as last time, except with more tie-wraps (10-12 on each spring) and a different setting for the traction bars. 23-24 psi front, 43 psi rear. The burnout really seems to help.

traction bars
Hi,
About the bars: The only way they will fit on a 2k1 is if you drill a 1" hole through the control arms. 4th gen control arms already have that big 1" hole, which I use as a mounting point. There is a hole there on 5th gen control arms, but it's much smaller, you'll have to drill it out to 1".If you could do that, it would most certainly fit.

Track prep has a lot to do with it. On Tuesday nights (Rice festival) they don't put any glue and the track is cold as hell. Best I ever got on a Tuesday is 2.18 on street tires. On weekends when they actually prep the track, the launches are much more consistant.

Maybe you should put on a super quiet exhaust and run full interior with a bag of groceries in the trunk. And strap in a child saftey seat, to exemplify how dumb that rule is.
