I've considered it but keep putting it off. It is definitely cheap insurance for preventing hydrolock. Believe me I've almost been there before and it wasn't fun.

I was just wondering if this one is legit since it's so cheap. Where does it bypass the water to?

the filter is suppose to absorb it... to me you kind of loose some torque, cause some of the air comes through the filter

it looks home made to me.

you may be able to make one yourself.

if its cheap, and u have a CAI already i dont see any real downfalls besides as written above, you might loose some torque (im not sure if thats proven tho).
would you rather be safe than sorry?

what harm can something like that do?

you can find bypass valves here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=413974

anywhere from 50$ to 30$ depending on if the special is still going on?

So you may lose some power...
The whole point of installing an after market intake is to gain "some" power. Since the gains from an AF intake isn't much in the first place, wouldn't losing "some" power with a by-pass valve negate the whole farken idea of a upgraded intake?

Has it even been proven that you lose power with a bypass valve?

It's a good idea. Though hydrolock doesnt happen very often. Watch those puddles!

I think if anything you'll gain power since it flow more ait,... But if you lose or gain . it will be less than 1hp

I've had one and I have hydrolocked, however I didn't hydrolock while running the bypass, basically you just install it above the filter in the pipe somewhere and all it is doing is if your filter becomes submerged it will draw air from the bypass since air is lighter than water. This is def some cheap re-assurance

AEm used to post on their site that you would lose some HP running the bypass valve and it stated for the most HP goin they recommended only using it in times of rain.
Which in my mind, if your gong to add/remove you could just convert back to short ram.
I dont see how people hydrolock under normal intake setups.
I know a member in the past did, but he had his filter sitting right in the fog light opening.

I was driving one night, it was raining, I had to make a left turn to where the road dipped down a bit, the storm drain was clogged, didn't realize the water was not the road till I was almost halfway in it. I gunned it and made it halfway out and the engine stalled, had to crank it for a little while and gun it to get out, the cai basically gulped a little bit of water. Other than that there were no incidents but that one was enough to make me consider buying one. I would just get the 3" one from AEM.

If the CAI tubing is 3" in diameter, I wonder how this eBay one would even fit properly?

I blew my engine before by hydrolocking, any bypass valve is worth the money to me, but I wouldn't cheap out. Just buy a AEM Bypass Valve and be done with it.

$45 AEM Bypass Valve Vs. A New Engine hmmm...

AEM like this one? --- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AEM-3...spagenameZWDVW

It looks even cheaper than the one I looked at before. Is it just pretty much foam? Does it suck air in under normal driving as well?

I found some good info while searching for an AEM bypass. Just thought I'd share.

AEM bypass tested on a NSX - http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0104scc_tested/

I have seen that article. With a Bypass Valve you might lose 1-2hp but nothing noticable.
