options for dealing w/ torn steering linkage boot???

alright folks, 15 posts later, i can now start my 1st thread! the issue is with a rubber boot that protects steering linkage on passenger side. under the right circumstances, is it possible to replace only the torn boot with a new one? and by, "right circumstances", i mean, checking the ball-joint thingy for signs of wear which would indicate that i didn't notice the problem soon enough. if so, what else if anything do i inspect and what degree a wear is acceptable? lastly, since we're talking about a steering component which, if it ever fails, may get me and/or someone else killed, should i just buy a new unit? it looks expensive but much cheaper than a life.

Slicey, that boot can be replaced. I don't think your going to have to worry about the joints, but check them anyway.
