painting honeycombs
Hey guys~
I was considering painting my honeycomb wheels graphite color. Has anyone attempted to paint the honeycombs before? If so, were there any troubles or problems that came up due to the number of holes or such?
Thanks for the help...

I don't really want to buy new wheels. I originally planned on getting 17s, but after realizing the price was around 1.2grand, i thought of all the other things i could do with the money. I wanted 17s for the looks and handling, but i like the ride on 15s and i don't really need the car to handle much better anyway. So now i am considering painting the stockers. I actually kind of like them, i think it would look hot in graphite.
Anyway, i'm still deciding on what to do....any more thoughts/comments...???

well if you are going to paint them... in a nutshell..
1. Take the tires off.
2. CLEAN them VERY well. Sand it with low grit if necessary.
3. Don't forget to use high temp. paint. (LIGHTLY) Spray once, sand 400 grit. Spray second time, sand 600 grit. Spray third, 800~1000 grit and may want to wet sand also. High temp clear coat, bake. Done.

some guy on the org emailed me pics a while back of his honeycombs painted graphite...came out really nice as far as honeycombs go. i only use them as my winter wheels, but i also have 3 extra i should sell as full size spares...

$1.2K for 17s?? What wheel were you looking at? You can get 17's decent ones for about half that price.

and Dave H.- i was considering painting my honeycombs too...but man i just think their way too ugly. Plus i noticed that the actual color of the face and inside those holes are 2 different things...
I recently helped my friend paint his 10 spoke accord wheels and i thought THAT was hard. Getting in tiny spaces to sand is a *****.
but i dont want to discourage you, i'll be curious as to how they turn out. I curb rashed my honey combs so bad, and the clear coat was peeling off and turning all kinds of nasty colors.

i got the centerline storms

weight 15 pounds (Forged). 17x7
the only issue i have with them really is that they are polished aluminum which apparently is hard to keep looking good. oh well, i'll do waht i gotta do, or maybe get them painted in the future.

Did you paint them yourself?
As for the 17's w/tires, they are rota subzeros. I know..I know...i can get them cheaper on the web. I could get it all for about 1 grand. But no one carrys the steel grey wheels, so i don't really know when i would be able to get them...
I still want a somewhat comfortable ride, and new rims would not be comfortable...
After some thought, i would rather spend my money on other things, like a stereo, y-pipe, and some other cosmetic mods...which i already have enough money saved up for...
So i may end up painting my wheels...still debating on whether or not to do so. I don't want to ruin them...but i think it would look cool if they were...
That's my story...
Comments?
yea ive seen several ppl paint them,
this is what to do, get some 400 to 600 grit sand paper, sand that motha down and begin painting!
make sure you get the dupli color wheel paint, and clear coat. it would look nice gunmetal
