Exhaust stainless?

My 93 MAx has a stainless exhaust OEM, more than 210,000 and 12 years without replacement, no complaints.

I thought the 97 and 98 had stainless from the factory as well.

True?

False?

What makes you think that your 93 Maxima has an OEM stainless steel exhaust? I have to call BS on this one. 4th Gens do not have stainless steel factory exhausts.

I added a stainless steel Budget y-pipe last year. The rest of the exhaust is not SS.

Well, Bobo, you need to do more research before you call BS. The 93 is a 3rd gen Max. I have one from new. I have the original literature. It does indeed have a full SS exhaust, and mine is completely original except for the accordion expansion joint.

It appears that the 4th gen is cheapened up, as it appears the exhaust on the 2 4th gen's I also own may not be Stainless. That's why I was asking. I bought these two used based upon the excellent service the 93 delivered, and I didn't get any sales info on them when I bought them.

So, chill brother. I think you confirmed my suspicions, the 4th gen has a cheapass aluminum coated steel exhaust. Let's see how long they last.

Given that you live in Pittsburgh, PA, I imagine you will be replacing the exhaust in your 4th Gens in due course if they see winter driving.

I live at the Coast and my car has seldom seen ice and snow in the almost 11 years I have owned it. If I have to replace a muffler in due course, that's life and I could care less.

Now tell us about the rust on the balance of the three Maximas.

My 4th gen muffler was gawd aweful and started to rust through while my 3rd gen was just dirty and no even started to rust. Granted I wasn't the original owner of the 3rd gen, but there wasn't any weld lines on the pipes so I assume its original.

Bobo,

The two 4th gen's are low miles, one is from Texas and has absolutely no surface rust. The other seems to have been parked a few years. Our trips are not so short as to allow a lot of condensate to linger in the low spots, but I'm willing to bet they will rust out before the old one gives up. Too, bad. I really liked the 3rd gen car, bought the other two based on it. These are fine cars but they are not as well built in some ways, with the cheap exhaust and the beam axle, but, so be it. I'll post when they finally give up.

I purchased my 99 max with 36,000 garaged, senior owned miles. My initial inspection of the car yielded one visible flaw, a deteriorating pos rear exhaust section. I'm gonna go ahead and assume were not talking stainless
