18" wheels too heavy?

I'm worried that by going with 18" wheels that it will put a lot more stress on the rotational parts to get them going. I heard that g35 rims weigh 24lbs and my 15" stockers weigher 15.5lbs. I also read that every 1lb on your wheels is like adding 8lbs to the curb weight - makes sense. So I'd be gaining 280lbs to my already heavy car!

What do you think? Am I just wrong about the wheel weight calcs? Would I be able to buy low profile tires (that weigh less) thereby canceling the heavy wheels' weight?

Here's how i look at it, what you lose because of the added weight - you gain in the handling and looks department.

Find a good median, for me that would be a good set of 17's.

if you have a 4th gen, i dont think 17's will look that bad. on a 5th gen, getting 17's isnt really worth it, unless you wanna go for speed. but soundmike is right about looks and handling. my 18x8 grip much better than my 17x7 rims. it also looks much better. it'll slow you down, but if you're serious about it, you can always get volks.......

LOL volks I could get a project car for the same amount of money.

I was thinking Some Rota Subzero's or Slipstream's in 15" that way I can have my tires changed over since they are all brand new (previous owner replaced them). They are REALLY light as in 12lbs.

The grip is probably due to the extra width (you gained 1.5 inches of tire over stock 15 steelies).

On a different note, could this be why the 350z pulls 14's in the 1/4mi when it is light and has very good hp? Are the stock wheel weights the bottle neck in that car? I noticed that Roja and Volk wheels are very popular and would give the effect of losing 400lbs...

well i always feel that u can upsize plus 2 on any car and it would still be ok. once u go past that then u have issues with travel and other things. i think u should get 18's, 17's r fine but they look crazy small and 15"s are beyond small. i dont think i can spend money on rims that small unless i had slicks around them.

i always say that if the only thing stopping u from buying bigger wheels is the weight then u need to have a faster car to offset that

Usually, people who get 17s regret not getting 18s.......My 18s weigh in about 19 lbs and tell you the truth the difference in acceleration/braking does not outweigh the increase in handling you will get.

Just look for 18s that weigh less than 25lbs and you will be fine. I highly recommend Enkei's Racing Series. Light, affordable and the best, they are STRONG.
