A/C went out

My ac went out last week. I had it checked out today and the compressor went out which put shaveings throught the system, everything is totally shot. I got a quote to fix which was $1400. Would it hurt anything to leave everything where it is and just not turn it on?

I am asking because there is no ac button so if i turn anything dealing with the clinment control the ac comes on. The clutch is frozen so if it tries to come on the belt starts to burn....

hmmm you would have to get it where you can use heat without the compressor engaging, mabey unhook the wires going to the compressor would be easyiest, idk, but i did see some compressors on ebay for like $200

I got my compressor out of a junk car. I would def. leave the system sealed until you figure out what you want to do, so you don't take a chance of things rusting. I would just pull an ac system off a junk yard car, the only thing you may want to replace with a newer part is the compressor, but I have had good luck with my junk one so far. I am not sure if you hurt anything else in the car but I doubt it. Also I have extra AC lines that I pulled off the junk car as well, if for some reason you need those let me know.
