SUPER DUPER EMERGENCY (Ignition Switch)

I will post pics later. This one is a bummer.

I'm driving home tonight and I smell a burning plastic smell. I figure its either the bose or something else under the dash.

I pull out the radio AC unit. Nothing. I smell the crap though.

I pull out the panel under the drivers side dash... AND I SEE SMOKE!!!

Mothafukah!!!!!!!

Its my ignition switch harness. The main 12 volt wire shorted out and burnt the damn thing. Now I need a new ignition switch.

A thread yesterday gave a place where you can buy these things for like 20 bucks. What was that site? Please let me know.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. Dont let this happen to you!

as s0ber already mentioned courtesyparts.com is one option, I have always had excellent service from both midwaypartsteam.com and jrnissanparts.com. Pinnacle has always been really really slow for me. JR and Midway will get it shipped the same afternoon.

I didnt know how else to post the pic. Its my first time posting a picture.

What sucks is that this switch is about 3 months old. I guess it was rubbing against the metal cover- and the 12 volt constant to the switch is not fused!

I was about 3 inches away from melting the harness. That sometimes equals fire.

A few days ago someone posted that they bought a switch for like 17 bucks. I bought one from autozone and I'm pretty sure its going to get returned because I dont like it

Well the fire isnt a comman problem, but them wearing out due to age is a comman problem. The solder connections get old and wear out, and ground out on themselfs...

That circuit isn't on a fuse? I'd think a fuse would blow before you'd have a fire.

You're lucky the fire didnt' develop into something serious and you caught it when you did.
