I have a 97 SE w/51k on it. I have this weird sound coming from the suspension.

1. Can't determine if it's front or rear
2. Can only be heard with windows down, it's not loud.
3. Sounds like some metal part is loose and is squeaking/clanging to another part; almost like a washer would sound when you frist drop it on top of a screw.
4. Only happens when going over potholes/bumps.
5. Doesn't effect the ride at all.

What could it be?

check all of your suspension bolts. might be from wear and tear.

 

could be a bad strut... but usually thats more of a clicking sound
