read somewhere EL/indiglow gauges burn out quick, true?

i was thinking about grabbing the EL indiglow gauge faces from paradox systems, but i remember reading somewhere they burn out quick, is this true? how easy are they to install? will i need to remove the needles?

hrm. i was going to post a link, but i can find them on the site anymore.
