AFR gauge Installed... yay

I got a custom Air\fuel ratio meter installed, toook 4 hours but works good (looks like a flat black box with like 10 colored led's on it). Was wondering if other people had the same results, im not sure how these are supose to behave. It sits at the normal N\A but im curious when i hit the gas it jumps real fast (fast enough where i can see it go up) to Full Rich... now does that mean that i have fuel not being burned? after i lift off the gas, it takes a second but then it drops back down to the NA range (yelow). Did the people with this gauge have the same resutls?

I really miss the point of putting time and money into something like this. Even if you were (or are) racing, what good would the knowledge of your air/fuel ratio give you?

those things aren't even that accurate. if you want accurate afr readings, you need a wideband o2 sensor.

correct me if i am wrong...isn't the gauge he's running a narrowband? meaning narrowbands will only tell u if u are richer or leaner from 14.7 AFR and nothing more, compared to a wideband that tells u exactly wut AFR u are at?

someone needs to do their homework. this gauge he is talking about is most likely narrowband and wont tell you much. wideband would be the way to go or go to a dyno with an AFC and do some tuning. a/f is extremely important to the power and overall running condition of the motor.

There is my wideband 02 sensor, which helps me tune the most out of my slow 3.0L.

PLX Devices Uses a trusty Bosch 5 wire 02 sensor, that can be purchased from VW dealerships for around 40 bux.

No, you can buy a REPLEACEMENT wideband 02 sensor- just the sensor itself for 40 dollars when its time for a new one. I have mine on all the time with the car on, and I haven't noticed any degradation in performance or response in the last 6 months that it has been in my car.

right. so you went to a vw dealer and asked for a wideband o2 sensor? i thought these were car specific, at least manufacturer specific. are they universal like the apexi safc?

The device you see installed in BlackBIRDVQ's car came from PLX Devices.

The device uses a Bosch 5-wire O2 sensor to get its readings. If you have to replace the sensor, you can pick it up for around $40. VW dealerships sell them, but that's not the only place to buy one.

you can get a 2 1/16" gauge in white or black face with a w/b o2 for $300ish, or less if youve got a hook.

n/b o2 a/f gauges are just a light show.

wtf? regular oem replacement o2 sensor is about $60-150. How do you get a wideband for $40?
are they cheaper by design, or am i retarded?

I have no idea why the narrow band 02 sensors used in our cars are so expenssive. Don't ask me I am not the one who designed and manufactured these things. Ask Bosch, they are the ones who make 02 sensors for our cars, and 80% of the world.
