Hey guys. I've decided that I wanna sell my max and buy a 95-96 SE with a 5sp. What do you guys think? Is this a good idea or not? My car just isn't fast enough and I don't think it's worth it to sink a lot of cash into it to mod it and make it fast. I figure I should sell it while it is still worth something because it only has 88,100 miles on it. What would you guys do?

A fourth gen might be the way to go if you have the money. A nice 95-96 SE 5spd is gonna cost ya around $10,000. If you have money after that, then there are plenty of mods out there. The supercharger comes to mind real quick. If you want speed and you have the cash, go for it. Oh and maybe somewhere around $5-6,000 for your car.

Well, it's certainly the easiest, and maybe the cheapest, way to knock about 2 seconds off your 1/4 mile time. If you don't mind the looks of the 4th gens, then it's the way to go.

Yeah, I like the looks of the 4th gen much better and I'm sick of driving an automatic. I can easily afford to buy the 4th gen. I think this is the way for me to go. Tell me if you think I'm wrong.

Blu-Max that is pretty impressive that you ran that time in a auto. What all did you do to it? I have not ran my VE auto at the track I wonder what it will do.And as far as buying a 4th gen.It is up to you I personally love the look of the 3rd gen.And so does my GF and the rest of my family plus the handling of the 3rd gen.Is better than the 4th.If you just want more power I would say go for a 92-94 SE 5 speed. They are just as fast as the 4th gen.Plus they look and handle better. My opinion is that the 4th gen.Just isnt built as good as the 3rd.

I would say with the WSP you should be at a 15.2.And how far did you advance the timing? Is that when you noticed the biggest gain? Or was it with the CAI? Do you have VTC failure?

Now advanced timing is wierd, yes that is when i hit a 15.6 and prior to that timg change, best was 16.2,but it was a rainout that day,the track was all wet. yesterday Dirksmoothe ran but didn't improve his time w/ advanced timing if it wasn't another rainout, i could see him hitting a 15.9 or so and me getting another 15.6 or 15.5. oh btw he just has a popcharger. and the VTC's seem to act up more after the car has been running around town all day, other than that i don't notice a ny VTC failure. timing is advanced to 20 degrees.

Just keep in mind that you will give up a good bit of build quality to go with 4th gen models. The 95-96 models were Round 1 of Nissan cost-cutting while the 97-99 models were Round 2 of Nissan cost-cutting.

For maximum modability, the 95 GXE 5-speed is the way to go.

I recently got a 1995 GLE to replace my 1993 SE that got hit by a damn Pontiac Aztek, I love the car, but I really miss my VE...

It's just a matter of personal taste, if you like the 4th gens, go for it.

Go for the gen 4! You'll love the pull of the VQ30 engine, especially with the 5sp.

Handling has a little to be desired, but with the fstb in things tightened up quite a bit.

Blu Max,
I was told that the timing on the VE's can't be changed because we have a timing chain rather than a timing belt. I now realize this is not true. Did you have to do anything special to advance the timing? Thanks! I may try to do this tomorrow.

Find the crank angle sensor, loosen the 2 or 3 bolts and turn clock wise,w/ a timing light of course. you might have to budge it a ittle.

It's the little black roundish thing left of the battery, kinda like a small shallow distributor cap.
