Generally you will be able to buy a **** with or without an OD button. So buy one with OD, disconnect the OD wires from your stock ****, attach them to the wires from the aftermarket one and your golden.

actually any flip switch (on/off) works. Momentary will only activate when you push it down so that means once you let your finger off of the button, the od will turn back on.

i had a on/off switch and to turn o/d off you had to turn it on and then off to get the O/d to turn on or off i drive a 98 maxima and mabye the wiring was diff. but i dont think so i went and picked up a momentary switch and now when you u hit the button it turns it on because the switch must be activated and deactivated for the computer to turn it off check your regular handle watch the switch when you press it it goes in and comes out to the same length it doesnt catch and stay depressed leaving it connected take the bare wires for the o/d switch touch them together and take them apart it will turn it off do it again and it will turn it on

Yea I think your 98 was different because before I converted to 5speed, I had an aftermarket auto **** with no od button and a simple on/off toggle switch worked for me. Also If I remember, the 97 od button was the opposite than yours since it stays in when you push it and comes out when you push it again.

FYI: I think the early 4th gens are different from the later 4th gens.

In my 95 & 96 Max, it feels like a regular switch. My 99 I30, the switch feels like a momentary switch. This may be the cause of the confusion about the switch type in this thread.
