difference between ES andSE model??

when I'm looking over some maxima reviews, there's nothing about the maxima ES 1999...is there any reason for it or is that model so rare or what??

thanks!

The only models for the Maxima are GXE, GLE, and SE.

Quote Stickeys:
The 4th gen Maxima was offered in three trim levels for the US market:
GXE "The essential Maxima"
SE "The Sportiest Maxima"
GLE "The luxurious Maxima"

I have an ES. It's actually pretty popular up here in Canada. It's a special edition for the 99 model. White gauges, alloy wheels, ABS, traction control, cloth heated seats and uses the sport suspension. It was a somthing between a GXE and an SE. There are a few forum members with them.

Yup, just basically what everybody else described...an SE minus a couple features. I kind of regret not looking for an SE now because I miss having a sunroof. I don't even see many ES's up here though so its cool to have something that's sort of rare.

Mike, I had no idea it stood for Euro Sport...thats neat.

The acronym ES standing for Euro Sport on a Japanese sedan doesn't sit right w/ me.

I do have an ES with no sunroof, no traction control and no spoiler..i have abs, lsd, 5 speed (no speed limiter), A/C, electric mirrors/doors, cruise, 16" wheels, heated seats, ...I'm in canada BTW...I was wondering if I was alone to own this model or if I've been tricked by an aftermarket "ES" sticker! but he looked like the rest of the emblems like stock..

It was part of an optional package. Personally I hate mine. It never works the way I want it to. When I turn my A/C on, I just want it to blow COLD air all the time, but the auto climate likes to adjust the air temperature (even on the coldest setting of 65F)

The air temperature gets automatically adjusted and stops blowing cold air. Even when the fan is on full blast at 65, I'm thinking once the temperature inside the car gets to 65F, the car adjusts the air coming out of thee vents to only maintain 65F (doesn't get any colder).

Nope, that ES emblem isn't a trick...you've got the real deal. Welcome to the ES club!

I also hate that auto climate control...I don't want my temp/fan to have a mind of its own. I definitely prefer dials to turn to the desired settings.

I think I read somewhere for the 97 Max that the ES is like the SE but without the stuff mentioned above already and is cloth seats. I was wondering what's with that when I got my 97 SE.

Sort of, but the ES was only available in 99 which means it also has traction control, an engine immobilizer chip in the key, outside temperature display, auto climate control, as well as the ES lettering stuck on the back of the car and embroidered ES carpet floormats. I think I covered everything...

Know what I think? Nissan was going to launch a special SE version, the branding got screwed up by a vendor, and decided to brand them ES.

Yeah, we were supposed to get the SE-L but Nissan Canada screwed up so we got a model below the SE instead of above! LOL

Wow, I refused to buy any car that didn't have it. Are you sure that you don't have traction control? As far as I know all 99's with ABS were supposed to have it.

I understand both sides for having and not having ABS. But considering the monthly winter storms we get and the big rigs polishing the ice from 150 ft before an intersection in the industrial parks. I'd be a toast without it. Actually the Maxima would be toast. I'd be the guy inside the car going

+1...I'm in the same boat. I live in the country in a very hilly area and we get some pretty bad snow/ice storms. ABS has definitely saved me a few times. My Mom probably could have avoided her accident if she had it too. She slid on ice into a transport that cut her off.

I forgot that the 5speed Maxima's didn't have traction control.

I prefer to learn how to driver better than being owned by ABS or Traction Control!!
