hey all, back to the maxima boards again for me as it comming to winter and I'm pulling the little guy out of storage. it's has some bend valves and possibly piston damage due to a timing belt mishap. Now, there appears to be no search function so I'm just going to ask. Does a VG30ET mate up to the stock maxima auto tranny? and are there any clearance issues due to the turbo. I have a Z engine that can go in to get this running but I just wanta heads up before I start. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 

The 5-speed mates up, I see now reason for the auto not to mate up. Though I'd question why you would want to use the auto tranny despite it's inherant weaknesses.

convienience. if the car makes it throught the winter I will put a 5 speed in. if not then I will sell the engine and not be overly concerned about the rest. but the tranny should hold with me just going to work and back, and x-mas shopping. not too interested in racing on icey/snowy roads. I'll wait till summer to go fast when I'm able to bring my S14 KA-t out. for now the engine is what I have. and I do appreciate the response and concern, I'm going to give it a shot I guess

 

That works, though I personally have not had much trouble in the winter with a 5-speed (though it rarely gets that bad around Seattle), I guess it's more personal preference. I would suggest doing a tranny cooler though. Better to do some preventative stuff for the tranny so you don't have the headache of replacing that.

it get's to about -50 in the winter here. and I won't be abusing it. nice and easy from stop signs/lights and no hard accel. gas is way too expensive anway, it'll give me good incentive to save gas lol the more gas I use (driving fast) the better chance of my tranny braking. and more money all around. as long as it lsats till I bring by other car out of storage in April then over the summer I will definalty get the 5spd. but as far as tranny cooler the temps I'll be driving in will be plenty cold. but it is a tip that is noted for sure in the future pending I don't do the $150 5spd swap.
