Itll come with time.... the trust that is. The aftermarket, we are still lucky to have suspension parts and body kits. Everything else is retrofitting. Some exhaust kits may still exist. Not sure though.

 

only suspension part i can find is the massive rear sway bar....which i want SOOOO BAD

 

I took mine off. I was lazy and only had one bolt bolted up to each bushing housing and when I took some hard turns all of a sudden I heard some skidding of metal on the ground. I ended up bending the housing for the bushings on both sides because of all the stress from the bar. Never thought I really needed two. I thought going to Home depot to get some newer ones I wouldve been fine. So, now I need to bend them back and still get new bolts. So, my bar has been out of commission for a while. I miss it though. Having the stock one back on made me realize how much of a difference the ADDCO sway bar really makes the car handle better.

 

oh i didnt know any one had one, i gotta ask, significant change from going from 1/4" to 7/8"?

Yes, definately. The car feels more planet in turns. It made me more confident in taking turns harder versus now. I have to be kinda easier on it. Definately a great mod to have. The bar is thick too. I still wonder who decided to make our cars have such a huge *** bar compared to the factory one because it helps so much. I want to personally thank them because it helps alot.

I actually have the story why we have such puny bars. When Nissan tested our cars back in the day they tested it with the electronic suspension which gave a much stiffer ride than conventional struts. So, they installed this bar on there because of the performance of the electronic struts. Sometimes I wonder why they didnt think to test it with and without and give the cars two different sway bars. Its whatever now though. If you want a stiffer one ADDCO is the one to get.

 

been thinkin about it, along with the rear struts but i cant find any thing but kyb for the rear....scary thing is when i was doing the back brakes last weekend i found the rear struts were the factory struts....like the factory timing belt

 

Ooohh, maybe they were factory struts changed out at a later date? Lets hope. KYB is just about the only way to go now adays. They perform better than Monroe sensatrac and all those other Sears model ones.

Never messed with Gabriel. Nothing against them. If you are wanting something for a good price KYB's are your best bet. Im sure Gabriel struts are good too though. It all depends on what you are wanting to spend and what kind of ride you are wanting. KYB's give a little sportier feel over stock and the monroes. I cant compare them to Gabriels because Ive never had experience with them.

 

Ok...gabriel air shocks are good though...my brother had em on his nissan hardbody...

 

i'm looking for something a little more....handling improving other than OE replacement, i have found some places that have a tockio set show up for the rear but they also say they are shocks, not struts.....

i have always wondered could a shock replace the rear strut with all the regular mounting hardware?

 

Yeah, the tokico's are nice since they had adjustable sets that were almost plug and play for models with electronic adjust, but they have been discontinued for years now. KYB GR2's are you best bet. It has a nice overall balance of performance and rideability. I love mine.

I find it hard to find anything performance related to the older maxima. Its very unforntunate though its such a good car.

A step up. You shouldnt have to take our word for it. The 4th gen and 5th gen guys use them with their lowering springs quite often. OEM cant handle the stress lowering springs put them through. KYB's are the next step up. Even not lowered they are still great performers.

 

They are OE replacements. Otherwise how would they fit the car? They just happen to add performance value as well.

I just got an allignment today and apparently the struts are leaking in the back and they are stock all around so I will definantly be looking at those KYB ones.

It says they are for the Electronically Controlled unit vehicles. If you dont have them then they wont be compatible.

Fabricating is always an option. I remember when the 5th gen's came out. Kev wanted some Coilovers. So, he took the fourth gen units and made them to fit his 5th gen.

 

well it was linda im still going to have to do some beam adjusting but im gonnago and ahead and get the dual projectors from an infiniti j30 and throw them into the housing so i can have high beams too that are projectorized that should be donr by the middle of next month...there is a thread on this tho i will be sellin the old projectors if ne one wants em just the projectors themselves not the housings oh and a pair of shrouds bmw style...
