Anyone else have a noisy center console?

Well every time I put my elbow down on the center console it rattles a bit. This doesn't bother me, but it drives my wife nuts! So much so, that she makes me extend it into the up position which makes it hard to shift gears (I have a 6 speed).

Anyway, has anyone else noticed this problem? I'm thinking about adding some felt pads between the upper and lower parts of the console in an attempt to help quiet it.

IMHO, it was a good idea that was poorly implemented and is just a noise maker!

A known POS. Mine squeeks where it rubs against the seats, like two pieces of plastic rubbing together... Worse in the extended position.

Yeah mine makes noise as well, in either position. My console surrounding the shifter makes niose too and moves way too much for my liking

Mine rattles too! It only happens when I lift up the arm rest. This is a minor problem for me, but does get annoying at times though...

The creakyness is fixable...

I started hearing mine about 2 months ago, and I took it to the stealership to get it fixed. They took the whole console out and tightened a bracket or 2 that the console it screwed into. It was quiet for almost a week, but I started hearing it again. Also, the space between the passenger seat and the flip up part of the console is much smaller than the space on my side. I have a feeling it's not fixable permanently, but if you take it in, they'll give you a good week without the creaks and crunches. After that, I recommend the old fashioned fix for annoying, but harmless car noises: Crank Up That System Yo!

get double sided tape and paint it with touch up or something to take care of it..you are probably right about the "pads" needing to connect better...should be easy to prob solve..

Lucky here; not a peep.

I absolutely will not tolerate any noise that is not supposed to be there. I admit I have installed several of those little clear soft rubber tabs (with sticky backsides) on places such as the high-mounted brake light, as well as a few felt tabs (also with sticky backside) in the console area.

And we have not heard as much as a peep since.

There are several little moving metal pieces associated with the console lid. I do remember analyzing a sound there when the car was new, and 'adjusting' (I don't recall, but I may have had to bend a little piece of metal) the hardware to eliminate the sound.

When carrying such things as styrofoam cups in the console area, there will be creaking sounds. But this is the cup, not the console. Styrofoam creaks when brushing against almost anything.

I noticed a poster or two above mentioned their seats touching the console. Interesting. Mine do not. I can reach down between the console and the seats on both sides. Should mine have touched, I would have applied a generous layer of various things (saddle soap on the seat leather, candle wax on the console, etc) until the touching no longer created a noise.

The dealers are notoriously poor fixing squeaks and rattles. It would almost require two service folks to analyze things; one to drive and one to search and feel. I always let my wife drive while I push, pull, press, jerk, tap, hit, etc, until I find the source of the noise.

I've not had any squeaks so far either. I have enough clearance between the medial side of both the passenger and driver seats and the center console that I can hold a road atlas or file folders in the space, which I frequently do.
