Are they lighter than aftermarket wheels? It may be a dumb question but I am not in tune with wheel weights compared to size and type.

my aftermarket rims weigh a lot more than my stock 15s...
if you something like volk te37s...those weigh nothing
Here are two sites that give weights of some popular rims:

Out of left field/ Sorry NickStam
I want to invest into some aftermarket wheels but out of all the pros and cons of the mods people are doing to their cars tells me that you have to be true to the game. If you want to go fast, you have to deal with the inefficiency of goping fast. If you want to look good, you have to deal with extra weight(leather, body kit, 1000W system, etc). If you are looking for efficiency, don't do anything at all or maybe add a free flow exhaust system to free up the engine a bit.
I just brought this on because it made me think about mods I was going to do in the past and changed my mind after reading a lot of these posts.
When I used to race radio controlled cars back in the days, mostly everyone at the track wanted the latest and greatest. Most of those people lost a lot of races no matter what they had because their driviing skills sucked. I won a lot because I could drive. I used to run 4WD Modifieds so I would build my own motors instead of buying new ones which was legal for my class. My funds were very limited tho. My budget was $20 a week for parts and racing fees. The point I am getting at is that don't you guys think driving skill can give you the upper hand most of the time instead of throwing everything on your car because you think it makes your car faster?
Again Sorry Nick.

Surprised!
Back then when I still had my 96 GXE with virtually nothing on it, no options, no crap. Just a plain car. I was surprised of how responsive the car was even with the steel rims. I eventually upgraded to an alloy wheel still using stock tires. The acceleration did not increase because the engine of the Maxima was so torquey that the decrease in weight in the wheels did not help performance much.

Fellas, don't forget that:
-Bathroom scales are off by a lot (2-3lbs)
-weights of same sixed tires by different makers can be as much as 2-3lbs.
I weighed my 96 SE 15s with the stock 215/60 RSAs on a "doctor's" scale. The weight was 40 lbs. My 16" K1s with 215/55 Yokohama Avid V4s weighed in at 38.5lbs (also confirmed by Fed Ex on the tracking slip).
