do i need my Power Steering cooler

do i need my power steering cooling?
it's leaking like crazy and i was wondering if i could just bypass it.
i don't think my 97 or 95 had one...least not one i remember seeing...

if not i do have a hayden 304 lieing around i could use...but thats overkill...

it's a steel line that runs to the front of the car...bottom of the radiator support.

and yes...you should have one there...but you can probably go some time w/o it as long as you're not doing the SCCA circuit.

Or build your own! It should not be too hard. Guess a copper pipe with fins would do it.

thanks for the replies. i'll either make my own or use my hayden 304.
do all cars have a ps cooler? did my 4th gen?
how hot can that fluid really get? it only gets cooled while going at a reasonable speed 30+ and you usually don't turn a whole lot at above 30...
BAH i hate/love my 3rd gen !?!?!

Wow! You're going to have some nice and cool PS fluid there. Nice job.

My '89 GXE has a PS cooler. FYI, simple metal wire loop in front of the rad/condensor. Follow the lines from your PS reservior to the front of the car sometime.

Other vehicles I own have PS without a cooler. I foun that when steering is used heavily (autocrossed) these cars have their PS fluid get hot and it expands to the point where it comes out of the top of the PS fluid reservoir. I think the PS cooler these maxes have is a nice feature. Although the max's PS pump pressure seems to peter out pretty easily.
