Results from the drag strip today. 96 auto 14.4@97

The only mods i have are unorthodox udp, place racing cai,Warpspeed y-pipe.I removed the entire stock catback exhaust also.I can't forget the weight reduction also. I have a few runs on video i will try to upload. One of me beating a srt4 with a stage 2 upgrade

Best 60ft 2.261
Best mph 97.44
Best 1/4 14.441

My best run was the 14.441@97.39 with a 2.348 60ft

So judging by my trap speed i should have been faster if i could have gotten traction.

I ran open y-pipe and cat thats it.I gained 2 tenths unbolting the catback today and every other time i have done it.My car weighs 2400-2500 so i have alot of weight reduction done. There is a post in the general section about that.I ran street tires on millenia wheels with 24psi. I suppose that is another mod.
It was to cold thats why i didnt have traction. bar:28.91 temp:59.0 hum:60 calt:1326 wind:3mph headwind

Nice results. Sheesh that weight reduction really goes a long way! Just imagine if you were 5-spd.

With the power I'm making I trap around 101 but I'm too heavy at 3250+ (incl me). I should do some weight reduction I guess but I'm not hardcore about it, I like my comforts. lol.

great time for an auto, but I think if you beat an SRT-4 (especially an upgraded one with you running a 14.4, that guy surely didn't know how to drive his car.

on the weight reduction.

I weighed my car in normal street trim vs. taking out seats, spare, sub, etc. both times with about 1/3 tank of gas.

3200 lbs full
2950 with the crap taken out

BTW, it takes all of 30 minutes to take out the passenger and rear seat, spare tire and carpeting in the trunk. Unless you plan on having a passenger ride along on the track, you won't be losing any comfort, except the noise level will be higher inside the cabin.

The srt4 ended up runing a 14.3 @106to my 14.4@95 but lost due to his 2.4 60ft and my 2.2 60ft His trap speed and his 60ft sure show he couldn't drive but it's still a win in my book.

my best 8th was 9.337@75.29

Yes I'm well aware of that thanks... I should have been clearer I guess but I meant for the street I like my comfort (in so far as doing permanent hardcore weight reduction). At the track I do ditch all the trunk stuff but I want to see how far I can go before taking the extra steps to get rid of the seats. I'm already running 14.0 and really should be around 13.7 to 13.8 but I've got some major drag on the wheels right now with two wheel bearings on the way to seizing and making tons of noise. I can barely spin the tires by hand more than half a turn now before they stop. Over the last 3 weeks I've lost 5 mph off my trap speed in similar conditions and without changing much mod-wise. Grrr.

Hmmm, I have had 74mph traps. Maybe I can hit that time after I am tuned.

That is VERY impressive for a VQ Auto! I have a 9.1 @ 75mph trap speed just b/c of my 60' time. But after that, I shift into 3rd gear and lose all momentum. That's why I have my low trap speed of 94mph. You show a great trap speed. I know you can get your 60' to 2.1s. Many VQ Autos have done that.

I have to ask, how have you reduced your weight o 2400 lbs!!!!!?? That is very impressive just by itself! Can you tell us what major things you have removed from your car to achieve that weight? Have you gutted the power steering, air conditioning, sound deadening, interior carpet, full dash, cut spare tire wheel well, bumper supports, sway bars, etc?

I think next year i'm going to go with slicks on some k1's i just need to do some more research.I was hoping for a 2.1 but traction wasn't on my side but i know my car has it in it.
Heres a post about my weight reduction.

I was actually going to buy another max that was wrecked beyond repair and turn this one back to stock.I drove 200 miles to look at it but it wasn't in good enough condition to drive it back. I think i'm going to go back with a trailer and tow it back next week. That way i can completly gut it and hope to weigh 1900lbs and possibly put in a vq35.

I will have a 2400-2500 lb car and have full interior next year.

The 4th gen maxima is one of the best cars to weight reduce,i could def see a sub 2k weight. my car is in the low 2500's now with carpet and pass seat out. I have plans for my CF trunk to go on next year and coilovers . those two things will allow my weight to stay the same and have carpet and all seats .
I ripped the carpet out because i will be doing seam welding foaming and more painting of frame. I already have a much better looking carpet to go in.

My goal in a couple years is ac in FULL interior radio to and be in the 2400's i know it can be done i have this all mapped out

I love to see him do this weight reducing, because honestly i love weight reduction more than racing

Thats time sounds about right where your car is suppose to be, when i ran my 14.8 my car weighed around 2800-2900, but i still need all my creature comforts in my car, A/C, powersteering, backseats, and carpet, considering my car is still my daily driver. Good job on your run tho.

i need to look over that weight reduction thread again to refresh on your "encounter in a32 weight reduction" i like those numbers, bet you could pull a 14.3, maybe even 14.2 you never know, wheres that video, im always up for seeing some ownage ! thsoe srt-4 have some power to the front wheels, they can brake loose and ruin an otherwise good launch, but sorry he lost it a bit racing you, nice win and i would claim it to, its about the car and driver !

I borrowed the camcorder from my girlfriends father and he doesn't know where he put the software so i can download the videos. So i played them on my tv and recorded them with my digitail camera from the tv so they are very crappy quality.I will upload them tonight though and post them.

Aaron do you know how much of a difference your torque converter made in the 1/4, just looking at one for next year?

Yes, I estimate it to have shaved .15 in my 60' when comparing two different runs (of same track and weather conditions) without any traction loss or chirping of the tires. I estimate that it shaved .28-.30 in the 1/4 mile. My flash stall was raised from 1800 stock to about 2600. The highest I could stall it up using the brake, stock, was 1800. But with the higher stall, I could stall it up to 2800 now. I did notice that it got looser over the months I had it. The stall raised another 100rpm after I had it a while (many months). So I can get 2900 brake stall now.

I would expect more of a power gain in a 3.5L Maxima just b/c they have more low end power on the launch than a VE Auto does. The more launching torque you have, the more launching torque gets multiplicated.

I highly recommend contacting Andre with www.edgeracingconverters.com. I am GREATLY satisfied with his service and product. My TC was about $400 shipped.

He did one of the first G35 high stall torque converters and the customer was very happy with the results. I found him on a G35 forum somewhere. I can probably dig up the name of the forum if you want.

*Edit* I fixed EdgeRacing's link.
