What do you guys think the average life of a maxima(as in mileage) is with proper oil changes and no racing or revving of engine

My '95 has over 367,ooo. Someone PM'd me and told me not to lie on the board last time I said that. But it's what I got. Orignal eng, replaced, trans, alt, and batteries (of course). Need a knock sensor, main serpitne belt, and suspinson all around. So, there's a 95 (been driven HARD), over 367 thousand miles and running fine, other than the gas milage (think cuz of the KS), and the sound of needing to change my belt.

BTW, bought it in Jan of '99 from a "one owner" with between 60 /65k, and delivered pizzizas in it full time for 3 and a half years, and lived 30+ miles from work, is where most of the miles came from...

 

At least 250K. We'd see more 200K+ 4th gens if the owners would hold onto them. But, as they car ages, the owner does and typically sells it and gets a new(er) car. They leave the board or tracking the car ends and we don't hear any more about it. The VQ when properly maintained would outlast the chassis in my mind.

 

Actually, I have never heard that a VQ would just die. I think they run for a very long time in normal conditions. People just get rid of their cars because they look old and require a lot of maintenance. BTW: VQ is one of the 10 best engines ever produced in the world.

 

I can't belive you guys are saying 200k. That's crazy. There are thousands of Maximas over 250k all over the place. People here love their car, so you see low miles, but the advrage for a 95 would have to be around 250, and when your on the highway, think of how many 95/96's you see...

 

Assuming 15K miles per year, you're looking at about 150-160K on a 95. I wouldn't say 200K+ 4th gens are all THAT common.

 

I think 15k a year is low. Thats really just work and back. That's also the reason alot of ppl dont lease, because they don't offer the ammount of miles ppl need. I can see AT LEAST 175/80 being common on a 95-96, not a 99. I mean, 2005 is almost over. Also, a good bit of people that work in big cities, live far form their jobs in the suburbs, ppl travel, and they are getting cheaper, so the kids are starting to get ahold of them.

 

15K/yr is 41 miles per day. I don't know about you guys but my roundtrip to work and back is 20 miles.

 

Well I found a max with 210k on it all highway miles and was curious because I didnt wanna buy a car that was gonna last 5k miles

 

You are probley right. My round trip is 60 (I don't want to live by the casinos), but maybe I'm just used to not living close to my job. I know if I had 20k a year, I couldn't phisicly do it. but maybe you guys are used to less driving.

 

the auto tranny on my 92 (VE) went at 235 xxx kilometers. the previous owner must have driven her hard though because i drove mine pretty good for the most part. i suspect he had done some neutral drops

 

well the trans on this one is manual

I've got 61,158 mostly highway miles on my 95SE, 5-speed, that I've owned since day 1, but I've never considered myself to be normal.

Hopefully forever, I cant afford a new car anytime soon, they say my 99 SE with 75k is barely a teenager on the scale of things though, my freinds got an old man 96 GLE that still growls like a tiger at 175k

 

If someone can show me a blown N/A VQ I’ll be very surprised

Blown like not driving through a deep puddle or something? A guy I work with got rid of his 4th gen at 225k, because it needed a water pump, I think he just wanted something new, and he's grouchy. He drove that car (and still drives) like a maniac, I think he got at least one ticket at 100+ in NJ, that was a nice fine.

I'd have to agree. Most people I know dont put 15k a year, its a lot more. I'm doing 500 miles a week -that's what 26k a year. I have a 96 SE, bought it 5.5yrs ago with 69k and just hit 205k. I figure I'll get another 150k on it -atleast! These VQ's will just keep on running, the tranny's on the other hand might be an issue- I just replaced mine at 196k for 2001- messed up input bearing shaft.

 

I saw a guy selling his 95 Max GLE with 200k, thats 20k per year, the interior and exterior looks beat up but not sure if the car runs strong or not.

 

If people are willing to put new trannys in their car every few years or rebuild it, I think the engine would hold up past 200K easy. I don't know how reliable the autos are but my first manual tranny just went at 98K. I replaced it because the car is still clean but say in five years when the car is older, I probably would not replace it a second time. I bet alot of these manuals will end up junked earlier than some people think because of bad trannys. Say if you have a 95 with 150K on it right now, it might not be worth it to replace a dead trans. when you take blue book value into consideration.

 

Yea but hell if I had a car with 150g and trans went out and it is what I had for like a couple years and knew it what I wanted to keep hell I would replace trans

 

The average is not well in excess of 15K a year. A few years ago the average car in the US was driven 12K/year. Since then, I believe it has crept up closer to 15K. In Canada, it is still close to 12K/year.

The average is close to whatever the average warranty breaks down to on an annual basis or slightly higher.

26K/year is not normal annual mileage by any stretch of the imagination!

 

26k sure isn't normal or average for that matter, i never said it was. I just dont know anyone that's doing 12 or even 15k a year. In any case an average is just that, highs and lows, add them together and do the math.

 

Yeah actually the last year we had the max and the G we did less than 15 k between the 2 of them.

 

I think the high gas prices have slowed some people's driving habits down somewhat since Labor Day and may have shortened a few Sunday drives.

 

Now, Bobo are you having the same problems with gas prices up there are we are? (pls excuse the ignorance)

 

We send oil and natural gas to the US big time. But gasoline prices are higher here than in the US as we are taxed to death at the pump.


The spread between grades of gasoline is also higher here.

Currently premium gas is about Cdn$1.15/litre or Cdn$4.35/US gallon.

Bringing that back to US$ at an exchange rate of about US$0.85 to C$1.00, translates to US$3.70 for a US gallon of premium (91 or 92 octane gas), with 94 octane being higher yet.

I only live about 30 miles from the US border and used to be able to go across the line and save about Cdn$12 on a tank of gas, but that is when the US dollar was considerably stronger relative to the Canadian dollar. The savings now makes it hardly worthwhile given the currency relativities and the price of gas in both countries, let alone the border delays since 9/11.

 

Yeah, and I know I will get flamed for this but sometimes I dont think we realize how good we have it compared to other nations. With the exception of Saudi Arabia- I was taking a look at CNN the other day and these guys pay about 69c a gallon!
