Do the Cattman VQ30 headers fit on the VQ35? I might be in need of a new motor and I want to keep my headers.

Yes they'll fit. You'll just need to find a way to plug the EGR bung.

What are the best headers for VQ35 swap? I know VQ30 heads are out of the question, but would you use VQ35 Heads, Cattman VQ30 heads, or whatever 5th gen modders use to aftermarket their heads??????????

Heads or headers?

Cattman only makes headers ... not heads

I have cattman headers and think they do their job just fine...

This is taken from an email message from Brian.

We will be selling the first 25 units at $850, including the installation kit. I’ll note that for a $25 increase in price over the previous NZ version, we’ve been able to make these critical upgrades:

1. Ceramic-coated mild steel to 304 stainless;
2. MIG to TIG welding;
3. Swaged tube to hand-built 3-1 collectors;
4. 10mm to 12mm head flanges; and,
5. Consistently formed mandrel bent tubing.

Ask Cattman for the EGR plug, he included one in my set. And they fit perfectly on the 3.5.

LOL wow I am dumb ... I thought heads and headers were the same thing. Can someone explain to a noob? I have been on the org for a while and never knew.

But from what I can guess, the best combo would be 3.5 heads with 3.5 aftermarket headers?????????

Heads bolt onto the block. They contain the valves and the cams. When you pour oil in, you're pouring oil into where the valves and cams are.

Headers are the exhaust manifolds. The piping that connects to the heads for the exhaust. Aftermarket headers with the 3.5 swap will make the most power, though it's debatable how much more power they make than a 3.0 header/y-pipe combo.

Yes, you can use them, but don't. The $tealin headers don't make power. They're a total waste of money.

Here's a dyno of stillin versus hotshot. hotshot in blue, stillin in red. The cattman headers make a few more ponies than the hotshots.

FWIW here is a pic showing the difference between the different stock manifolds and a header.

Hate to resurrect an old thread and all, but it popped up in Google search.

I was wondering, if this is true, will the 2002-2003 3.5 Maxima full exhaust systems fit on my 2000 3.0?

Is the piping the same under the car?

Greatly appreciated,
- Byrdboy

Edit: Mainly, can I switch out my 3.0 headers for 3.5L aftermarket headers and have it mate up with my current 3.0L system? That's what my main goal is.

The headers are the same thing, you'll just lose EGR (assuming A33B headers. I'd get the UIM block off plate from the '01, and ditch the rest of the equipment).

What headers are you specifically looking at?

The OBX 02-03 headers. I heard Cattman headers were the way to go, but I can't find any and do not know how much they cost.

My Maxima is a 2000 model so you are correct in your assumption. How would it react to loosing EGR? Probably throw a code if I lost the equipment?

Also, any ideas on how to go about getting a block off plate? Machine one myself, buy one from a salvage yard, figure it out myself?

Edit: Why wouldn't I get to keep the EGR?

Because the A33B doesn't have external EGR, so no bung.

Of course you could have the EGR bung welded on.

Yes, it would throw EGR codes. It's likely that you could trick the ECU such that it doesn't throw the codes, though.

You could find the UIM block off in the classifieds from a partout, or in the junkyard, or make one yourself.

Or you could just get it brand new;

Plate:
14017-4Y900, $13.53 each at Courtesy

Gasket:
14722-2Y000, $7.52 each at Courtesy
