crank sensor

today on my way to work coming of an exit my car cut off and wouldnt start back at all.
i had to get it hauled away to a shop and they told me my crank sensor came off... they didnt say if it was the POS or the REF. they charged me 102$ to toe and fix it. all i think they did was plug it back in or maby nothing at all and it just came back to life. my point is has anyone ever had problems with there crank sensor? how would i know if it's bad? please help!

same exact thing happened to me once. the one on the tranny bell housing(dont remember if it was POS or REF) the connector came loose and the car just died in the road on me. after pulling it back to the house, a thread on here and my haynes, I plugged it back in and was good to go.

The sensor isn't bad, it's just that the car wont run if it comes unplugged, so you're good to go other than the c-note you're out.
