what do you guys think about this?

my friend is selling his 98 max SE with about 136k miles on it in about a month. he got the car in 2001 with 84k. hes changed only the brakes, battery, alternator and starter. car runs great, very good cosmetic condition too. its fully loaded, leather bose etc. tranny shifts smooth. hes bringing it in this week to get the ses light taken care of. probably just an o2 sensor or something, nothing big.

i have an 01 galant right now, 4 cylinder with 52k. its giving me some problems. just replaced the radiator and thermostat and im still burning coolant. also may need a timing belt and water pump real soon too. and anyway i also hate having a 4 cylinder car and want a 6.

i could sell my car probably in the 6k range and buy my friends car in the 4k range. i used to have a 96 GLE that i traded in with about 130k b/c it was falling apart (tranny was dying, needed tons of other work too.) so im a little weary about buying another car with such high mileage. and in the spring i plan on getting an 03 mazda6, so i really i need a car to last me through the winter.

so you think this is a good idea, or should i stick with my galant hoping it doesnt do anything bad over the winter? i need a reliable car as i use it alot for work and such.

If you want to keep your friend a friend don't buy HIS car. As for mileage and such, 136 is not bad as long as it was taken care of.

Buy the Maxima and forget about the Mazda. Give the Max some tlc, don't abuse it and it will last for years. 136K on a VQ is nothing!

yea, many problems can occur when buying a car from friends. if all receipts are well record then it should be fine buying a 134k for this price.

WTF Seriously? We just rolled a 99 SE in March, 120,000 miles and got $11,000 out of it.
Plus didn't the GLE have leather standard? Maybe you mean GXE?
