tien or not to tien? suspension help

I was shopping around for new suspension and I heard a lot about tien. I’m looking for a nice drop. What I don’t want is the last feel I had with my tokico shocks and eibach springs.

What feel with the eibach/tok's are you talking about? You need to be more descriptive of what you are looking for. More stiff, less?

If you want a good suspension set up go with the tein Basic Coilover kit. I have been through three different sets of suspensions and these are comfortable without sacrificing performance.

These are the set ups I've been through personally.

Eibach/Tokico blue
Eibach/Kyb AGx
Tein S Tech/Kyb Agx
Ground Control Coilover/Kyb Agx

Tein Basic Coilover kit is by far the best riding, drop, and performance out of the bunch. After all these set ups, I could have went with JIC Majics.

Well you live in ny, I would strongly suggest you get coilovers to adjust the car to how you want it.. But I have H-Tech's paired with Agxs.. the ride is good, not to stiff, not to loose. Close to the SE spring rate.. I would say go with tein, no problems here. Soon to be on coilovers though

yea the tein basic coilover kit has had all good reviews here on the .org, i personally have the ksport coilovers, and i have driven in some other maximas with spring/strut combos, and i like my handling overall. If you have the money get coilovers, once you decide that its just which set to get. it seems you are pretty set on teins, and i would have gone with the teins but than the ksports came out so i got those instead. stay away from s-techs though if you only want to go spring/strut

I'm glad I chimed in. Seems like everyone agrees. If you change your suspension, definately spend some money. it's worth it.

I can't this one enough. Do NOT do it until you're ready to drop real cash on it, and once you do it, do it right.

BTW, Ksport coilovers here as well. I don't have any illusions that this is a "comfy" ride by most peoples' standards, but the handling control, and adjustability are definitely worth the bumps for me. Besides, for the handling and the money, they ride really well.

I have ridden in a Max that had Tein Basics, and that was also a great setup. Tein Basics won't give you the tweakability and *****-out handling of the Ksports, but they are much more comfortable and still totally transform the handling of the car.

I firmly believe that there are only 4 suspension setups for the 4th gen Max that are truly worth buying and installing. In order from comfiest and worst performing to bumpiest and best performing:

1. H&R springs, Tokico Illumina shocks/struts, KYB dust boots, mzmtg's rear shock mounts
2. Tein Basic coilover system
3. Ksport coilover system
4. D2 coilover system

I had Tokico Blue shocks with Skunk2 coilovers on my last car and OMG did it suck! It was fine for a while, but soon enough every bump I hit felt like I was driving through a massive hole!! My car would bounce for half a block! Time for new suspension in the Max, and I'm definately doing it differently!!

I agree as I have the D2 coilovers. I tend to get a bit of bumpyness now and then but the handling benifits are well worth it to me.

It seems like the only way to go up would be the JIC Magic's and I have quite a bit of work to do elsewhere before I redo the entire suspension setup. . .
