Importing Nissan Cefiro into US?

I didnt see anything about this, but I am finding left hand drive Cefiros on the internet and they seem to all be in reletively MINT condition...So my question is, since these are basically Maximas in dress can we readily import them into the US and register them for use on public roads? Anyone done this?

If we cant import these, has anyone taken off Maxima VINs and snuck it into registration? <- however they do it...Like how the US skyline guys try to use 240sx VINs to register it and get insurance and whatnot..

My other question is, i'm sure you all talked about it before but I cant search, what options are on these cars that the Maxima and I30 do not have? What else about these cars are *so cool*?

Thanks a lot.

Our Maximas look so much better than the overseas Cefiros. The Cefiros look like....Infiniti I30s, not a car with the most beautiful curves either.

yeah regular 15 year rule applies here.
imo the older cefiros are nicer....when they resembled the 3rd gen and skyline a bit.

Yeah, if you are willing to pay all that money to ship a car over here, why would you get a Cefireo and not a Skyline????????? that's like asking for a lollypop when you could have the whole birthday cake.

he wanted a left hand drive vehicle (guess he wanted to be a driver on the passenger side of the car). well this car is obviously from taiwan, and taiwan's driving regulations are the same as the US. this car shouldn't be a left hand drive vehicle. i'm from taiwan, and i am sure of it unless this is one of those imported JDM's to taiwan, but come on, cefiro's are already slightly classy and expensive. Don't think anyone would spend that kinda money to go thru such hassle to import a left hand drive vehicle to taiwan. so "Car Boy 16", don't be silly, this car isn't what you are looking for.

and here is what they put under the descriptions,

★出廠(正)1998年少跑
===factory 1998 sports sedan

顏色:白/棕雙色 排氣量:2000cc、鑰匙兩把、說明書車籍證件齊全、內裝乾淨漂亮
===color: white/beige, displacement: 2000cc (that's a 2.0 L vq engine) got two keys with all manuals, interior is clean and nice.

===basicall, it's talking about the options and accessories, nothing fancy or important.

★本車特價(28萬)可分期1~4年.
===special price is 280000Nt(that's about 9,000 dollars US, without shipping and processing fees) installment available for 1 to 4 years interval.

dude, this car is weak, alright? it's got a 2.0L engine, I"ve heard of soooo many complaints from taiwanese drivers that this cefiro sucks to it's last bones. a V6 engine with a 2.0L displacement? people are pissed off because it yields no power and burns lots of gas. this is clearly not a good buy.

hope that's enough for you...

Thanks for your honest opinion BUT Left hand drive is correct for the USA and Taiwan...it is not Right hand drive like Japnese and Australian cars. I do not like driving on the wrong side - that's stupid.
I would also not want the 2.0L VQ20de model with 160hp...i'd much rather get a topcar version with the 3.0L ....I just used that car as an example.
I think the Cefiros look a lot classier and I would like to get one to drive.

So I dont know if I got a real answer or not - but I still dont know if you can import these cars into the US with little trouble since it's an A32 chasiss. You guys know what I mean right? I know skylines are hard to get legalized because there aren't any similar cars like them in the USA to base them off of for regulation and safety reasons - they need conversion in order to be legal.
But do these Cefiros from Taiwan need any conversion to be legalized into the US for public roads? If so, what would need to be changed?

For the Infinit I30 owners, these taillights would make a great conversion, they look very classy.

The biggest problem you'll have is getting the car federalized. It will have to meet safety and emission regs foir this country, even if it's a Maxima in disguise. They'll have to crash one to make sure it's safe and if it doesn't work, it'll need new bumpers etc, etc. It's not worth the money to do that unless you have $$ to burn. You may get bragging rights, but at what cost? You might be able to make a Max or I30 look like a Cefiro and probably still not spend as much. AND you get the big engine.

Hey Car Boy 16...cool to see somebody from Duluth! I don't live too far from there...just a few hours north up Hwy 61.

I would check first to see if there are any Cefiro's in the US/Canada that have already been imported just to make things easier. There's gotta be ways to do it, I know there is an 89 Skyline for sale in my town.

Only thing I don't like about that Cefiro is the two tone paint!
